Could some one post a pict of the fold down leg under the jump seat of a 78 FJ40. Or if you've removed such seats I would be interested in them. I'm not to concerned about the condition of the covering just the fold down legs.

I have an early 78. The jump seats do not have the fold down leg. I have only seen one 78 with the fold down leg and that was not a US model.

I have them in my 76 FJ40, but only because I stole them out of my 82 FJ40. I can get you a pic but it won't be until Sat.
My 78 has fold down legs on the jump seats. If the legs didn't fold down, you would have them sticking out when you folded the seats up!

i have 76 junp seats in perfect condition and they dont have fold down legs, they have like a rubber bump stop that rests on teh wheel well. they are for sale 180 bucks! jiMMy
Hmmmm, after hearing about jiMMy's seats, I may have to double check if mine do have folding legs. I have not seen my jump seats in 3 years. LOL

When I bought my '78 one side has the fold-down leg, and the other has the rubber bumpstops for the wheel-well, so I'm not sure which is the stock one. The one with the leg is a more stable seat.
I made my own fold down seat legs. I got tired of the rubber bumper setup cause when somone sat on them they would bend the seat . The rubber bumper is cantalievered in so far so too much leverage is force on the outer edge of the seat.
I used 1/2 conduit = $2.00 for a 10' length.
I use 6 conduit clamps= $. 10 each
Plastic conduit plugs =$. 10
Self tapping screws =$ 1.00
Total cost ..............$4.00 and took about 45 minutes.
I bent the conduit using a hand held conduit bender and I brazed the conduit where they intersect.
If you look close you can see the conduit spans to the outer seat rails to take advantage of strength. I bagged the rubber bumpers and I screwed the self tapping screws into the earea where the bumpers were. ( it's reinforced under there. )
Sorry , I tried to post three pic but it didn't work.
PS, they do fold down out of harms way and there is enough tension on the clamps to keep them there.

Thanks for the photos they help with my project.
I think the conduit set is the way to go unless I come across a used set of used seats.
