a buddy of mine and i were driving down the highway in my 72 bronco when all of a sudden smoke came pouring in the cab.
hit the brakes, flew onto the shoulder. buddy had fire extinguisher in hand and was out of the truck before i even got it all the way stopped. dove underneath it and saw flame.. nailed it with the extinguisher for a few seconds... opened hood.. fawkin air cleaner had lit up. pulled it off and drove home.
edit: so who torched the car? the kids or what?

My previous 4x4 caught on fire while off-roading. Apparently the ATF boiled over or something. Put fire out, did a quuick repair on some lines and was off wheeling again :)
When I was a kid my mom was waiting to pick me up from CCD (think Sunday School). Cold day so she startde the car up and smoke poured out from under hood. FD came (I remember sitting in class while fire engines roared by, we all said "how cool if they're coming here :) ). FD puts out fire, asks mom how it started. She said she didnt know, just started when she started engine. Fire captain gives her the "dumb broad" look and hops in drivers seat and starts engine....POOF!!! fire lights up again and the guys need to haul the hoses back out :D She had an electrical short. My mom will still tell you all about the stupid fireman :)

When I was maried, I derove the CJ from Tellico to Miami w/ a leaking p/s hose. As I was backing the trailer into the yard, it caught fire. I told the ex to get the water, she went inside and gpot ma glass of water to drink. In the meantime, I got the hose & put the fire out.

One night last summer I woke up about 3 am and looked out my window at my neighbors house across the street and it had a weird orange glow to it. I looked down the street and saw a huge ball of flames. I got my phone and went out onto the front porch to see what it was, at first I thought it was my neighbors trees and then saw it was my other neighbors van. I called 911 and just sat there and watched it burn. The guy who owned it came out and started spraying it with the hose and didn't really seem to care so put the hose down and waited too.

When I lived in NJ I was driving home one day on the Garden State Pkwy. Just past a tollbooth there was a Fiat in flames. I pulled over, grabbed my extinguisher and ran back to the fire. The owner stopped me and told me not to dare put out the fire..he had had enough of the damn car :)
