: Trailer Axles....

Okay guy's...Here's a question for ya'...I've got a nice home built, 16' x 84" wide dove-tail trailer...The trailer kicks ass in every way except it uses mobile home axles with the 14.5" bias ply tires on it. Naturally they are out of round, and if you smear a curb with these tires I constantly pop a bead.

Is there any way to convert to a 15" rim with a radial tire? Or is there a 14.5" radial available. The hubs are welded on to the axle tubes, so unless I cut and re-weld (no jig) I'm stuck with those hubs...Everything I hear is no...And that I'll have to buy new axles for it to run radials...Sure the 14.5" bias tires can carry a sick amount a weight, but I'd rather have glass smooth tow than being able to carry 24k lbs...

Thanks...

Go to Northern tool.com and get a new axle. It's only about a 100.00 for a new axle and hubs

That cheap eh...Don't know why I was thinking in the 4-600 range...I guess it's the breaks that's gonna' bump the cost...

Don't know if they'd work for you or not, but there are non-mobile home type 14.5 trailer tires. I think they come 7 and 8 wide.

you can get different bolt pattern hubs and drums to run a conventional rim, and they'll fit up on your existing spindles.

Up in santa rosa ca. I have picked up mobile home axels with e-brakes and tires and wheels (chev 6 lug) and springs for $125 ea.
Call your local mobile moving co. and ask them!

I can buy 3500 lb trailer axles with electric brakes for around $350 CAN. You guys have to be cheaper than that. I myself would stay away from mobile home axles.
