Any chance tube frame vehicles would be street legal with proper lights and fenders?

Most states have a provisions for home builts and kit cars. Just requires various inspections and, of course, the obligatory fees to anyone remotely associated with highway vehicles, then you get a VIN and title...

What, no DUNE Buggies running around? Most of the ones in California were registered as '68 or earlier VW Bugs. On one it used about 12" x 24" of the original VW floor, but was still a "bug". :)

DOT, EPA, etc... use an old frame, keep the VIN# metal, and document the "rebuild" from the original frame. Best if pre 68 (safety requirements), or even pre 64 (zero smog).... and go from there.

Since we don't have vehicle inspections any more, I don't see why not. Just don't make it obvious. Lights, windshield, windshield wipers, SOME kind of fenders and at least an attempt at a muffler. You can still get ticketed for all the things that we normally had to pass inspection for, just don't go asking for trouble.

FWIW, I'm not talking about normal inspections like Kali runs. I'm talking about the same inspections that vehicle rebuilders must go through to get a title released when building totals. These inspections are likely required in all states for kit and home builts. Talk to local street rod and kit car clubs, they will have the real info you need... Even an auto rebuilder can probably put you in touch with a good starting point (at the DMV)...

The OHP is an excelent source of info on this one. I've picked their brain on more than one occasion on this.

Getting the registration prb wouldn't be all that hard. You don't have to have the vehicle in hand when you go to get the plates or register it so........

Oklahoma is pretty lax on stuff like that. Actually, they are REAL lax.
