i am going to swap a cherokee 44 into the front of my cj7 and i have been gathering bits and pieces at the junkyards this week to complete the swap. i got the axle from a 76 cherokee with it came the flat top knuckles and correct spinle for 5x5.5 conversion..but my question is can i use the cherokee drag link and tie rod..i am cutting the axle down to wide-track cj width..not sure if it will work..will the drag link fit my pitman arm or can i drill it out to fit..any help would be great or even links to old threads would help... i cant get anything when i search

I assume if you cut it down to fit your wide track CJ, you will also need to cut the TR/DL down to fit.
Solution: Leave it full width and use the stock TR/DL.

Yup, leave it full width, outboard the springs and use the t/r
and d/l or cut it down and do the same to the t/r and d/l.
IMO, leave it full width.

thanks guys at first i though about running it full width and outboarding the springs but then i found a race shop like a 1/2 hour away from my house that will cut and respline the axle shaft for like 50 bucks so im pretty sure im just gonna cut the axle housing down myself and weld the outer knuckle back on..so if i cut the axle down 3 inches that means i should cut the TR/DL down the same amount right..i read in an article that a guy just adjusted the TR/ends so they where in as far as they could be then they were in far enough to use without cutting them down..does that sound like it has some truth behind it??? last...do the late 70's FSJ's use the same size hole in the pitman arm to mount the drag link as the cj's do...i forgot to check when i was at the boneyard and not knowing some of these little things is eating at my brain
