I'm going to by new winter tires and those are the only M/T tires that are approved for winter use in Sweden. I don't know which one to choose considering mud performance, noise level, tread wear, on road handling and snow/ice performace?

The Yokohamas have a reputation for providing exceptional on-road traction for a "MT" type tire. I also haven't heard anything bad about noise levels. Mud traction is so-so, probably not as good as the Cooper, but not bad. The downside is that the Yokohamas also have a reputation for short tread life. The soft compound that makes them so "sticky" on the road also makes them wear out rather quickly.

The STT's on the other hand, are kind of loud for that type of tire. But, they really last a long time. Actually, this is my personal choice for an "MT" type tire. They're really good in loose snow, but could be a bit better on ice if you had them siped. Handling characteristics on pavement are very good, much better than most tires of this type. And as mentioned above, I suspect you'll like them better in mud compared to the Yokohama MT's.

So, to sum up. The Yokohamas will probably provide a bit better traction on pavement & dry surfaces off-road. The Coopers will last longer & handle mud better. So, I'll let you decide based on your priorities. Just my $.02 on the subject.

hummm lets see yokos?? ya i gots them
noise level is very low hardly notice it over my exhaust and radio. as far as off-road im not sure. but these tires are SOFT. i went to the drag stip one night and did a few urn outs and the yokos where stickier than most drag slicks. i love it but they just dont make one big enought for me. oh well.
