Any clues on this one ?
My Ibex has stock Defender axle and steering components, albeit RHD.
Now when turing left, I don't get any self-centering action - which is a little un-nerving.
Right hands turns are fine, something has changed/broke after the last off-roading session.
I've had a quick look at the steering rods, and all looks okay, I've also washed some crud out of the steering damper.
Could it be somthing in the swivel - like a raiko (sp) bush ?

Andy:
Do you have Power Assisted Steering? Sound like it might be a pump or gear box issue. Also, might try disconnecting your dampener to see if this changes things any.
Peace,
Paul
No oil in the swivel will do this, but if it happened after off-roading then it's more likely an impact related event. Jack the front up on axle stands and see what doesn't wiggle...

Mine behaved similarly when I taco'd my drag link once. Is your steering wheel still centered?

Is the steering very "light" when turning left and normal when turning right. Cause it could be something wrong with the hydraulic valve in the top of the steering box.
I had a box that just became very light both ways and it wouldnt return to centre (but it did this both ways). On mine it was fairly obvious it was the hydraulic valve but I never fixed it cause I then broke the sector shaft.

Thanks for your suggestions guys.
Steering is the same weight left and right.
Yes it is a PAS steering system.
I don't thing my drag link is bent, as the steering is still centred, and I'm running dan-bars anyway.
Steering damper is the current no1 culprit. However corrosion means I'm gonna have to cut the old one off, a job for the weekend. I'll report back.

You could have bent something in the box Andy :(
i hit a rock hiding in some grass a while ago when i was turning on full steering lock, it smacked a wheel and when i straightened up, the steering wheel was about 1/2 a turn out! there is now a 'high' spot when i turn that is slightly stiffer (easy Merv!) than the rest.
Also, self centering isn't as quite as good as it used to be. time for a new PAS box me thinks.
Fortunately my 110 is having a new one fitted this week under warranty.....hmmm.....
and a new gearbox.......
and 4 new callipers......
crappy Td5 rubbish!!

Steering damper was the problem.
Partially siezed, and woulddn't compress properly.
New one is on now, and it drives just fine.
Thanks for all your suggestions guys.
