: What the war is really about
Ben Segrest 04-14-2003, 10:17 AM Okay, so I've got this good friend (female) who is opposed to the war and the death penalty and Pres. Bush and all sorts of other things. Therefore, I make it a point never to bring up politics when I'm talking to her. Well, I was talking to her recently and the war came up. I told her that it was hard for me to take her opinions seriously with all of the stupid people who are so well represented. She started to say how that was what the media wanted me to see at which point I stopped her and explained that I was not seeing this through the media but through anti-war websites etc. So she said that there were a lot of stupid people who support the war. I agreed. She said, "Like the way some people still think this war is about WMD". She didn't want to talk about it anymore, and I was happy to change the subject but this has been nagging at me ever since. I don't know if she means that "Bush" is trying to build an American empire, or if she just means that the threat to the US was some force other than WMD. I think it was the latter, and it pisses me off. It mostly pisses me off, I think, because she is not a stupid person. I'm not sure why I posted this, or if I have a point. I just needed to get it off my chest.
Joe_W 04-14-2003, 10:18 AM heeeeeeere we go again....................
Travis Waldher 04-14-2003, 10:19 AM She's right.. it's not about the WMD's.
It's about Iraq violating its surrender agreement from Gulf War I.

Amen. And it doesn't matter whether WMD are found or not. The point is they weren't cooperating in proving that they disarmed.
They wanted to see just how far they could push things, like a six year old seeing how far he can get before mom spanks him. And they got spanked.

Can we please start 5 MORE threads on the same subject today cause I'm really bored. :flipoff2:
I think she's right and wrong about the WMD's
I really think trying to say the invasion is about Hussein and his killing of the Kurds is a pile of shit too.
1992 saw the beginning of this invasion.
Frontline had an excellent series of shows about the build up to this point and the people who advocated it.
QUOTE"Deputy Secretary of Defense Paul Wolfowitz has been at the center of Pentagon strategic planning in both Bush administrations. A hawk on the use of U.S. military power, Wolfowitz took a lead in drafting the 1992 "Defense Planning Guidance" -- a set of guidelines on America's military posture toward the world. The draft said that containment was an old idea, a relic of the cold war. It advocated that America should maintain military strength beyond challenge and use it to preempt provocations from rogue states with weapons of mass destruction. And it stated that, if necessary, the U.S. should be prepared to act alone. Leaked to the press, Wolfowitz's draft was rewritten and softened by then-Secretary of Defense Dick Cheney. "
Wolfowitz has talked Bush into following his plans.
