: question for those who have the TSM brake kit
Fullreversal 11-15-2001, 07:07 PM looking in the TSM catalog, for the IH scout rear disc kits, it says to use front brake rotors from a GM truck (or blazer) and have them redrilled to 5 on 5.5. now since GM is 6 on 5.5, I wouldnt want to have to pay to have a rotor welded up and redrilled. Is there another rotor out there that fits the specs of the GM rotor but already has a 5 on 5.5 pattern? Thanks in advance
Darrell
Brawler 11-15-2001, 08:08 PM They lie. The rotors you want are from a ford truck. I think F-150. The reason is because you need what is refered to as a hat rotor so you dont have to do all kinds of wierd shit to make them work. Then you just use 1/2 ton gm calipers and be done with it. Real easy conversion and the rotors are cheap.
Fullreversal 11-15-2001, 10:04 PM now what about piecing the kit together myself? is the time and effort invested going to be more than the $280 that TSM is asking?

Depends, you'll need to source the following parts, GM Eldo calipers, brakes pads, rotors, short flexiable brake lines, and fab up brackets.
RustoleumWhite 11-15-2001, 10:56 PM You may want to look at WARN's caliper brackets. The ones they use for their FF kits.
Last time I talked to WARN, the guy was open to the possibility that they could be used without the FF kit, for rear discs. I figured you would probably need to make spacers, but they could very possibly work. naturaly, he didn't "know" because it hadn't been tried.
Advantage: they are GM style brackets, already drilled and sized for the D44 rear axle flange.
Also they are cheap. $75 for the set. And as long as you don't fawk them up, you can return them if they don't work.
Food for thought. There are also lots of fab suppliers that offer genaric brackets, but then you have to drill/weld them and fit them.

1MutCJ7 11-23-2001, 08:46 PM Anyone know how much for just the TSM brackets?
are the ford rotors same height and thickness as the gm's?
WheelingPiazza 11-27-2001, 06:01 PM I am going through this right now for my waggoneer axle..
For the just the brackets its 125, that doesnt include the spacer ring.. From what I have researched the Ford f150 rotors will work and are 5x5.5

JBscout 06-26-2002, 07:55 PM I have a few questions about the rear brake swap, and searching hasn't answered them so here they are. The f-150 rotor will not fit over the axle flange, do I turn down the flange to make it work? With new pads, rotors and the eldo calipers, it won't fit over the f-150 rotor with the caliper adjusted all the way in, any ideas here? These damn f*rd and caddie parts are pissing me off, any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Root Moose 06-26-2002, 08:09 PM Go to the IH section on ORC - if memory serves there is a pretty good write up over there on rolling your own.
Sorry, no URL because I am too lazy and only have a 26.4 kbps connection. Should be easy to find though.

That is cheap? I though cheap was the ones from A&A MFG for $7 each.

I'm with you. I just purchased a set of 1978 Chevy 3/4 ton 4x4 discs rotors and calipers....going to add some discs to the IH truck D60 rear with the A&A weld on bracket. :D
It'll be nice to have 4wdiscs again :smokin:
Any thoughts from the :vader2: side?
