: Rear D60 spindles

Question for those of you who have removed your rear spindles and shortened the rear. How did you get the tube out of the spindles? Did you cut the axle first or remove the spindles first?
A buddy of mine bought the parts from 66CJdean to shorten his 60. Since I have a lathe I was asked to bore out the spindles. I got the bore up to 1.580 with about .010 tapper due to a crappy 1" boring bar. My problem is that he cut the spindles off with about 3" of tube still on them. I turned off the welds but can't get the tube out.
Can I just bore out the tube?
How far does the tube go inside the spindle?
How important is the part of the spindle that goes inside the tube?
Any help would be appreciated. I would like to get this right for him the first time ;) thus all the questions.

Forget about the tube. Just turn the backside of the spindle down to the dia of the axle tube you are welding to and have a nice bevel on it so you can lat in a nice root pass with a second pass on top of it. Here is an example. http://www.respite.org/images/cj66dean/60jig1.jpg
