Has anyone put the Offenhauser intake with a Holley carb on their 258? Is this thing worth a damb? Are any of the Holley 4-barrel carbs better then the Carter BBD I'm currently running? How are they off angle? Any near as good as fuel injection?

So only one guy from NC has bought this thing? I would like more than one vote before I spend the money. Help!!
How about Holley carbs in general? I've spent the last 3 years dick'n with this Carter BBD, I don't know what others might be like.
Jeepgod: When you say "pigeon toe it" you mean tap the pettle a lot? Did the Holley carb stall out on hills & angles every time?

I think you'll find that the average POR poster doesn't spend a lot of time working on 258's. Most around here tend to favor BIG displacement.
I however am running a Clifford 4BBL intake (very similar to the Offenhauser) with a Weber replacement carb. From what I've seen/heard, Holley is great for street applications, but not so hot offroad. If you are looking to spend the $$$ I would say slap a Weber on it with a fuel pressure regulator.
Had I to do it over, I would probably have opted for a Motorcraft 2100, but that was when I was young and stupid in the ways of the junkyard swap. I have since grown more in the ways of the force.
258's not a bad plant, makes a lot of torque.. but its heavy.. if you can go with a 2100 or maybe a quad.. avoid the holley for offroad IMHO.. course I run a v6 with a quad *shrug* I do have an offy intake though.. sweet
The Holley is hell offroad. A tricked out Holley will never run as good as Q-jet out of the junkyard on a hill.
For best results run the Q-jet wrong way round on the intake. This makes hooking up the throttle a bit of a pain but '82 crossfrie injection 'vettes will yield you a throttle cable about 2 states long that should work to make it all good.

I run a Holly 390 4bbl w/ Clifford intake on my 258. it did stall occasionally on steep uphils @ idle when I only had a 55:1 crawl ratio. no problems on sidehills. With my 102:1 ratio it very rarely stalls. I made no modifications to the carb.
