: Best bumpers for my zuk?
KaceCoyote 04-15-2003, 02:34 PM Open to opinions on what I should choose to replace the flimsy stock units on my 88' as soon as it gets here. Right now I'm thinking of the WARN front unit but it looks abit heavy and I tend to fret over particularly heavy peices. BTW I need to have a tire swing on the back and a winch mount upfront and a 2" in the back would be ideal. Opinions, gripes?

Tintop 04-15-2003, 03:23 PM All depends on what size winch you want to use. I have a 9500 and my options are limited. Unless you can fab your own bumper. I'm thinking about going with the front bumper from spidertrax.
78mphgpr 04-15-2003, 03:51 PM I have the spidertrax and love it, there is a hs9500i on it. I can email pics if someone will post it.
stormsailor18 04-15-2003, 03:57 PM Option (1) (my favorite) Build your Own.
Option (2) Find a friend with the equipment buy him a beer to buid it.
Option (3) Find a used one.
Option (4) Spend more money than you should and buy a new one.
Rockrat 04-15-2003, 03:59 PM Go shrockworks and never look back Jim makes one hell of a bumper:flipoff2:
KaceCoyote 04-15-2003, 04:07 PM Winch wise I'm planning something in the rough 800lbs pull range. Anything above that is kinda useless, no matter what winch I have I think I'll loose traction before I can put a 10K winch to any sort of use. In anycase I'll more than likely take your advice but out of curiosity anybody even using the ARB unit?
Tintop 04-15-2003, 04:32 PM My dad had the arb bull bar on his sammy, It looks great and its pretty damm strong. Its seen its fare share of abuse but its expensive.
Shrock 04-15-2003, 06:05 PM Thanks for the compliments guys.
Here is what a ShrockWorks bumper looks like after a complete thrashing and bashing in a CalROCS competition, including two rolls (woops).
Nothing but scratches. :D
KaceCoyote 04-15-2003, 06:15 PM Hey thats pretty slick lookin dude. You might just be able to relieve that painful bulge in my wallet. :D
Rudezuk 04-15-2003, 06:22 PM Here is a good idea for the rear...

KaceCoyote 04-15-2003, 06:53 PM For the rear bumper I have something unconvential in mind. A guy I knew who worked with steel for a living and was into baja bugs big time. Anyway he ran a squared off rear cage(back bumper) and across the topmost rail connected an A frame with hinges and then connected it again up at a pole that just barely came from the roof(rollcage mount) and mounted the tire and oil cooler there. I thought this was pretty slick because due to the lenght involved he could throw a sleeping bag onto it and make himself comfy for the night. I dont think I'll be sleeping on my bumper but I do like the idea of a vertical hinge, if for no other reason than because its cool to be different.
as long as you're not both different and rice.
Rockrat 04-15-2003, 07:09 PM Mount your rear tire in the bed out of the way of getting ripped off and keep the COG low with something like this. I just made this for a guy in the club for his heep.

Anything is possible with enough time and effort. :D
The problem is that the 9500 is wider than the ID of the Zuk frame. I have an idea. It will cost more of course. Email me if you want me to dig into it more.

What he said :D
I run an ARB, but I got it befor Jim went into business, or I would have gotten one of his...they are ALOT nicer IMO.
SilverZuk 04-16-2003, 05:50 AM Here's my copy of a RRO bumper 2"x6" 1/8" wall I think with 2"x2" "hitch steel" ends
I came off of the stock frame connects with two pieces of 1/4" thick angle. The main connections are straight back from the winch mounting surface into the front body mounts.
I use 1/4" plate with 1/2" bolt.
A piece of angle is welded to the back of the 2x6 to make the winch mounting surface.
No special tools required.
Sawzall, welder, and hole saw.
I have slammed this thing into everything. The only problem is my brush gaurd. I made it with black pipe as a deer deflector, I'm going to replace in the next couple of weeks with 1.5" ERW to withstand bouncing off of trees and rocks without major damage.
SilverZuk 04-16-2003, 05:58 AM here's the pics

I have a used one for sale (Option 3?). In almost like new condition, barely used. Owned by one of my buddies and once he got the truck built he got out of the "sport".
$300USD + shipping and it is yours.
