They are a stronger, spicer replacement for the 297x. They will work with stock axles. GET IT!!!

We did a side by side comparison of them the other day at Gearman's shop (he has them as well). The bearing surface on the crosses Mic'ed out at the exact same size, but the 760x has a smaller grease hole in the center. The caps appear to be identicle to the old style 297x with the BIG needle bearings. The material of the 760x appears to be superior, and the engineering of the center of the cross appears to have some promise, as well. We will see how they hold up - Jesse sent me a set to have 4x4Grrl test out this weekend in CalROCS. They are installed in brand new Warn shafts, and ready to get it. :ghost:

Jess,

You can look up the patent if you like at:

http://www.uspto.gov/patft/index.html

Also - a great resource for browsing other stuff....do keyword searches on "transfer case" or "drive axle" or whatever.....lots of pics and dimensions.

I stopped by our local Spicer dealer, Fleetpride, this morning and asked for them ...
They weren't even in their computer yet so the counter guy called Dana and ordered up a few pair.
They will be here in four daze. Easy as that ... ;)

I noticed there were no zerks in any of the pictures (understandable, it weakens the joint). Does Dana/Spicer offer the caps that are drilled for zerks?

I had joints with these zerks in my rear shaft and was pretty happy with them, they actually lasted about 20K miles with 6" of lift on a ranger (after some "modification" of skycrapper's screwed up pinion shims on their springs).

Only complaint I had with the zerk fittings in the caps was that they tended to grease the cap with the zerk, and the one opposite it much better then the caps to the right and left of the zerk (I know that is confusing, I'll try again). Picture the joint laying on the table so it forms a cross or lower case letter "t". If the zerk were at the top, the top cap and bottom cap would get greased MUCH better than the two side caps, but it would be simple enough to put extra greasable caps on the joint (just drill 'em yourself).

Anyway, someone tell me why I am dumb to want to use these. (and I know that a normal zerk would stick out of the cap and hit the knuckle, but they were pretty low profile on the joints I was running).
