Is there some way to find a place in the airport that will reserve a specific vehicle for you? They say I can get a "SUV", and request a Jeep - but they can't guarantte one

WhyTF not?

I want one, am willing to pay for one - why can't you reserve me one?

Anyone who can help, or knows of a company that WILL reserver a specific vehicle, feel free to speak up...

Hell, most of the time, I request a certain *size* and when I show up, they don't have it. What makes you think they'll be able to hold a specific *model*?

I'm no help, maybe some of the parched Phoenix people might know, but you *could* just be happy with whatever 4x4 SUV they give you (any of them will get you to the trailheads and such).

You have a valid point, so it may just end up being the case... I wonder if they can at least guarantee 4x4

Now, for the right price, I could probably come up with a Jeep with no alarm, and a set of "keys" for ya...

Outside of Hawaii, I don't know of any car rental conpany that rents Jeeps.

What about Enterprise? I've asked for specific vehicles before. They have always told me if they can get them, and reserve far enough ahead, it'll be there. They always have.... maybe try them?

Then rent em in Denver. Hummers too! In Phoenix they rent everything from Jeeps, vipers, Jags, Vettes and Lambo's. But you just have to pay the $$$ for them and it's not gonna be Budget or Enterprise rental either. :D

I got a black Wrangler for 3 days from Enterprise last year for my mom who wanted to buy one. She wanted to try it out first...

Enterprise in Phoenix says they don;t do topless style Jeeps at all :(

Would it be a big risk/cost to wait and rent when we get there?

David, try here: Sedona Jeep Rentals, 1-800-879-JEEP

Also try to find some info on a place called Scottsdale Jeep Rentals. I called my friend (he lives in Phoenix and he said it's the only places he could come up with off the top of his head).... If they aren't close enough, then I bet they can refer you to someone who is....:)

"Dollar" rent-a-car here in San Diego has TJ's for rent. I drove
past their place last Sunday and there were about 6-7 of them
on their lot.

Well, that leaves us with the problem of getting from the airport in PHX to Sedona, then back when the trip is over :p But thanks for trying :)

David,
Call those clowns and see if they have any "Shuttle service" from the airport. Or maybe someone else may have a shuttle to Sedona. Or you rent a Pocket car(Avis or some shit) at the airport and shoot up the hill on the first night to Sedona, pick up the Jeep and drop the pocket car at the Sedona branch of the other rental joint.:flipoff2:

David-

here's the local # for

National Car Rental

at the Phx airport. I called them and verified that they do rent TJ's- $61.00 per day/$299.00 per week/100 free miles per day $.50 for each additional mile

1 602 275 4771 ext 1224 (She's the gal I spoke to)

Desert Jeep Rental - 6626 State Hwy. 179 SEDONA, AZ 86351 928-284-1099

Again, if they don't work because of the distance thing, they could possibly refer you to someone who is in the area to suit your needs better.......

OUCH! The price is right, but that low mileage will kill you out here...

On hold with them right now... gonna see about an unlimited mileage package...

In the mean time, any clue on roughly how many miles we will put on 5/13-5/18, from Phoenix, to Sedona, to the Grand Canyon, back to Sedona, back to Phoenix - with various sight seeing along the way?

ok, Here is what I get out of National....

Jeep "Wranger" (could be TJ, could be YJ?), $89.00 a day/ $379.00 a week, unlimited miles (+tax)

Sound about right?

Well, Phoenix to Sedona is like what, 115 miles or so... going by memory here so I might be off....

Sound about right?

I'd probably jump on that, IF they can garantee the Jeep, maybe fax a written statement, and IF they have it with a soft top, and IF you have the right to put said softtop down, and IF and IF and IF...

That price would make me happy to rent a TJ for a week to play around in, assuming I had full rights.

David, the map program says it's 113 miles from Sedona to the
Grand Canyon. Sedona to Phoenix is 116 miles.

That Jeep WILL be a TJ. Rental car companies, at least the larger ones like National, take their fleet off the road around 15k miles. Any more than that and they eat it on the resale market. Any YJ with 15k or less on it is probably not going to be seen at a rental place in AZ.

And I would reccomend jumping all over that deal for $359 for the week no mileage restrictions. The only potential problem there is that it'll most likely be a 4 banger auto. I still say jump.

In case you haven't yet signed your immortal life away, call Enterprise as well. They're running a big sale, something like 1/2 off rentals, but not including airport rentals, or Maricopa county rentals (Phoenix). But, if there's a Sedona Enterprise, and if they can find a Jeep, you'll save some coin.

I would bet a paycheck there is a shuttle (van) service between Sky Harbor and somewhere in Sedona, probably about $40-$50 round trip.

Called the PHX Enterprise - they specifically said they have no topless Jeeps.

Now they are giving me the run-around...

Saying I can't have the weekly rate, I have to take the daily rate since it is less than 6-7 days

Starting to get :mad3:

That's easy.

"Oh, so if I keep it for 2 extra days, I save $100? OK, I'll change my schedule, let me keep it until 5/20, thanks."

On 5/18, drop it off, put the key in the slot, and wave goodbye. Whats the worse they can do? Not rent it for 2 days while it sits there? Tell me ANY rental agreement that won't let you stop personal use of something before the lease is up.

They said the unused time would be pro-rated, and I would again be charged for the actual days instead of the weekly rate...
