: Save our Land - BLM meeting poll for the 27th..
Brandon 11-16-2001, 09:16 AM Unfortunately I won't be able to make this one due to having to work out of town but from the last few I have been to it takes an 80% concensus to change anything and a lot of wording somehow made it on there that I am sure none of us want. If nothing is agreed upon BLM will have to make a decision. Showing up to the meeting will let them know that there is recreational value to that land - otherwise they will basically side with the landowners and lean toward very limited use of the area.
Bottom line - go to the meeting and be courteous to the land owners. Introduce yourself and let them know you are with them not against them. We want to MAINTAIN the area not close it!
NOTE: I can't find Jim's email right now to send the letter but I will, check back for it..

Rover Addiction 11-16-2001, 10:53 AM I'll be there! We've got lots of time to plan so put it on your calendar now! Bring your friends! Tell 'em you'll take 'em to a strip joint afterwards.. anything!! Just get yourself and as many other bodies as possible to this meeting! Jergens is too good to lose. It's a great local place to go and test your rig as well as an awesome easy access camping spot. Let's keep it open!

jdjanda 11-16-2001, 02:17 PM Where is the meeting to be held, and what time?
Joe
Rover Addiction 11-16-2001, 02:29 PM The next scheduled meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 27, 2001 from 6:30 p.m.
to 8:30 p.m. at the Coloma Odd Fellows Hall which is located at 358 State Highway 49.
It is along 49 in coloma on the south end.
If you are heading south on 49 it is on the righthand side of 49 just after the park and just before the hard 90 right turn where 49 starts to go up the hill.
the hall is set back off the road a couple of hundred feet or so.

sfazr2 11-16-2001, 03:22 PM simply, I have to work. My mom lives in Sac and I can always crash at her place but bad timing is the story of my life.
YellowSub1962 11-16-2001, 03:25 PM I have to confess I haven't followed this particular issue too closely until about a month ago... Does anyone have any sample letters I can read to get the jist of what type of tone and specific examples everyone is using, so my letter(s) can be "on the same page" as everyone else??
Thanks,
PSD

I understand people have lives - but take a minute to send him an email expressing your concern for public land and the lack of places to go etc..
randii 11-16-2001, 04:21 PM Letters won't help much -- this is a community planning process, and you have to SHOW UP to stake your rights as a member of the community. In fact, earlier in the year, someone got a light smack from Jim for trying to go around the established process.
Letters from afar might just be of help, but you'll have to dance lightly, stating that you're not trying to do circumvent the established process, but still want to weigh in....
Peter, I know you hail from quite a few hours away, so maybe a letter would be appropriate for you, but for all the rest of us that are much closer, showing up is the best way to have a real impact. As noted above, we were just a few votes short of having consensus on our side last meeting, and that was with a middling showing from both sides. If we pack the house, we could slam through our own agenda and get 'continued motorized recreational access to the river' put right into the goal statement.
Randii
Dennis 11-16-2001, 04:29 PM Best case senerio. We show up in such masses they have to postpone the meeting to find a bigger meeting hall.

I'll be there for sure, maybe with another cookie for Randii. :D
twn44s 11-16-2001, 04:58 PM I will there this time I will bring my wife along too.
Here is another tidbit that no one has mentioned yet , Jim Eicher(BLM) says that this process will end soon he would like to wrap up the Pine Hill Planning in two meetings , he is open to extend that a little but not alot.
If we make a strong showing on the 27th we could probaly get through this and be done with it and have it go the way we would like to see it , contiued motorized use responsable use that is. But it will not happen without people showing up , we where only a few short (2-3)on gettting concensous on the wording of the goal statement. Approveing the goal statement will be the first thing on the agenda for the meeting on the 27th
FLASHLIGHTMAN 11-16-2001, 08:03 PM Issues brought up last night against vehical access (destruction of fish spanning beds and endangered plants) were things we can fix and have fixed on other trails, like reducing erosion by building water bars, blocking off bypasses, spur roads, river crossings and general road maintenance and wiht increased sinage.
We must convince the opposition that we ALL CAN JUST GET ALONG, and that we want to protect the endangered plants and native fish spanning beds just as much as the next tree hugger.
Bring your mom your dad your goffy little sister, your dog, mistress and both blow up dollys, if that can stand up thay can vote
COME STAND UP WITH OTHER 4WHEELERS
YOUR VOTE WILL MAKE A DIFFERENCE
FLASHLIGHTMAN 11-19-2001, 08:45 AM just be there not excuses

FLASHLIGHTMAN 11-21-2001, 12:18 PM other potential sentances could be:
BLM will provide and install frie rings within the preserve along weber creek.
BLM will provide a naturally compostiong toilet/out house near the fire rings.
BLM will make it a priority to aquire and secure, through purchase or trade, perminant recreational vehicalar access, including 4wheel drive vehicles, for public use from Jergans road to weber creek.
ya may want to put you sentance ideas on some large card board and hang them up at the meeting
TripleBGirl 11-25-2001, 07:47 PM I planned on being there. I will bring as many people as I possibly can. I just hope we have enough people and manpower to make a difference!!!!
PurpleYotaGirl 11-25-2001, 10:46 PM Shannon Let me know for sure if you can going or not..
I broke my truck today so I might want to start looking for a Ride if I can't get it fixed.
Anyone in the Citrus heights Area got a Seat?
Brian? Your not to far from me...
bit breaker 11-26-2001, 12:17 AM I hate legalese, but it seems they have conflicting statements..
in the from this, they say the preserve will be open for day use only,
then in the next section, they say the preserve will be open 24/7 365 days a year.
this info seems very restrictive other than for the strip mining.
:(
Ken
edit: nevermind, i see what was being presented now..still too restrictive though
Dena Eskilsen 11-26-2001, 11:39 AM Sean and I will be there, We have got an extra seat Purpleyota, I'll try to get off work at 4:30 or so and you could meet me at our house off Sunrise and Antelope. Call me at work or e-mail me if ya want to go 857-1830 ext 8602

Not yet.
The meeting stages have been setup and approved.
the phase we are in is the public community planning stage. This is where the goals and vision statements are formed and the management issues for the BLM are identified.
Eventually this will work its way into a draft plan. ( beauracracy in action:rolleyes: ) and then the draft plan is made available for public comment.
The first stage is very important to be in on since the draft plan becomes difficult to drastically change.
So in essence a very small group of attendees are setting the tone.
Ultimately BLM is responsible for writing the plan but the public input is an important part.
A letter now from a great distance won't hurt, but letters from locals have not been well recieved by the BLM folk for this stage.

TripleBGirl 11-27-2001, 10:19 PM Man, this sucks! I wanted to go tonight so bad but I ran into a problem just as I was leaving and had to stay behind. Anyone make it back yet? I'm wondering what happened!!
Dena Eskilsen 11-28-2001, 07:57 AM The meeting went great, all the wheelers got consensus on most issues. We outnumbered everyone there. Randy your points were very impressive! Next meeting is Dec. 6th.
randii 11-28-2001, 11:40 AM Thanks, Dena -- sometimes a few little reminders can really keep that group on track! Brian, Dan, Vince, and Mike (May I call you Mister Maniac, sir) also had great points.
As noted in the other thread, celebration *IS* in order, but only a short celebration. We won a battle, but not the war... and we can't rest.
Three possibilities exist for future meetings:
1.) we keep our overwhelming majority, and continue to shape positive OHV-friendly recommendations
2.) we lose the majority, but no consensus exists, so our existing statements stand
3.) the homeowners show up with a majority, and rewrite all of this to their liking
Remember, if the anti-OHV folks regain an 80% majority, they can re-open past issues and steam-roll us.
We have to bring even MORE folks to combat what will undoubtedly be a major influx of homeowners. To retain the 80% ratio, we need FIVE OHV supporters for evert ONE anti-OHV person.
See you all there next week, December 6.
Randii
PurpleYotaGirl 11-28-2001, 01:24 PM Yep Randy was Great....
