Did you measure before and after? How much did you actually gain?

I didn't measre this diff before and after, but comparing it to the one in my truck with the lip still there, I gained just under an inch. :)

not only did he gain an inch or so,but just getting rid of the lip makes a big differance for just sliding over rocks instead of hanging up.
It sure looks like it was easier doing it out of the truck.I did mine while it was still in the truck.

Looks good, I did mine a few months ago but just recently got to test it out.
I did it pretty much like yours.
I actually hit mine up towards the pinion more due to the angle I`m running it at (22º) and then it slides down and under.. I haven't gotten hungup on the 14b yet.
Where as my brother's running the non-shaved 14b and as soon as it hits a rock its pretty much hungup.

So did you escape the hole grinding process without any wounds? I had a trip to the eye surgeon to remove some steel heh :p

I was thinking about doing the same to mine before i hit the con Memorial weekend. How long did it take you guys to shave all that off and how many grinding disks did you go through:D :D

How long it takes depends on what ya use. For the first cuts, I put a worn out cut off saw wheel on my 9" DeWalt grinder...
~DO NOT DO THIS! Very stoopid and dangerous!~ Ok, that said, it works great. Just be sure to wear some long sleeve shit, saftey glasses. After taking 80% of the lip off with the cut off wheel, I put the grinding wheel back on to shape it. Then a 50 grit sanding disc to smove it out. Total time was less than half an hour.

The only physical thing that came as a result of this was sore arms from trying to hang onto the 9" grinder with a cut of wheel on it. :D

I was wondering, besides there being an advantage to this for rocks, is there an advantage in the mud? Or should i not take the time to shave it. The 14 bolt i am getting is going under my suburban. Some people say i am crazy to use a suburban for my off-road pleasures(maybe it is) but it is fun. This 14 bolt is just going to be a temp axle until i can afford a portal axle. So if it isnt worth the time if i am just going to be playing in the mud, then i probably wont do it. Thanks

For a half hours worth of work. If it keeps you from gettting stuck one time its worth it. Diffs drag in mud just like on rocks.
