: "Stuck at work" nuts & bolts question

Long story short...putting the Defender back together, putting the Rockware bumper back on. Went to remove stock bumper and somehow ended up shearing two and mangling one of my front bumper bolts.

Have replacements (had to get from dealer, who doesn't know the bolt size, only part number). But one of the nut blocks got mangled, too. So I have to replace with good ol' nuts.

So, anybody know what size nuts I need to be tracking down?

Don't go to any excessive lengths - I can always drive around and do test fittings, but I'd rather be able to call, locate, and go pick up, so I can spend the evening working on the Defender, rather than driving around looking for nuts.

(Merv would have a field day with this

:flipoff2: )

They're M10s

Good luck,

If you're talking about the 4 vertical bolts (2 on each side) for the Rockware front bumper, I just went to the local hardware store and matched up 1/2" dia grade 8 bolts to the length. I had to drill out the frame holes to 1/2", but that really wasn't much.

Otherwise, someone iwth a parts manual could probably get you the dimensions and part #s of the originals, but my manual is at home, not at work.

M10's, awesome.

I would go 1/2", but I had issues finding a combination of a long enough bolt and long enough threading. In a fit of expediency I just went to the dealership (about four blocks from work).

:flipoff2: I was thinking the same thing as I posted it...but when the only place selling G8 or metric 8.8 after 6 PM is Lowe's, and when every Lowe's is about 45 mins away, you want to make sure they have what you're looking for before you make the trek.

FWIW - M10, 1.50 thread

What did the dealer charge you for the bolts?

$9 each, and they didn't throw in any lube with that either, so it was extra painful. If I weren't trying to put her back together in time for an upcoming trip, I wouldn't have bothered.

I did have the joy of having the following exchange, however:

Me: "I guess while I'm here, do you have the nuts for them?"

Parts Guy: "No, I don't have any nuts. They use some sort of bar with threaded holes."

Me: "So let me get this straight, you don't have any nuts?"

Parts Guy: "Nope"

Had me snickering all day.
