: need more than 10" in front

Ok,

So I have out grown a 10" shock in the front.

Who is running eye-to-eye in the stock location, and what shock are you running. I am concerned with running a 9012 or any of the other 12" as the compressed lenghts tend to be 16"

I plan on just running adapters for the eye-to-eye conversion.

I run a RS-2934 on the disco. It's 29.23/17.87 for 11.36"s of travel.

Does that shock have eyelets or studs? If eyelets, what's the length with the adapters on it (unless you have some neat-o fabbed mounts)?

Stud on top eye on the bottom. The adatper is from A&A MFG there`~3.00ea.

Got extended shock towers (extended by 3.5in) and am running 14in travel shocks (very similar length to the 14in travel rancho (I thought this was the 9012).

Ran this setup on my rig when it was a rangie and still now as the series 2a.

Its a bit hard on shock rubbers but works fine otherwise.

But what spring length or lift are you runnin? I am thinking that with my 18.5 inch 260-300 springs, I would not need to extend the towers, but be more concerned with the compressed length "bottoming out"

On my disco, i have the Rancho 9005 in front. Its a 12" shock and i think the collapsed length is ~17.5" and the extended length is ~29.5" They are an eyelet-eyelet type shock.
For mounts, i used stock Disco2 towers(they already use an eyelet type mount), but you do have to drill out the shock mounting hole to 1/2". My lower mounts are made by RTE.
For springs, i currently have the 20.5" tall dual rated spring that gives me about 3" of lift.

Sam, how did you extend your shock towers? Pics?

I extended the shock towers by the same amount as the increase in shock compresses lenght so that I could still safely use the stock bumpstop.

If you are going to space your bumpstops then you dont need to extend the towers as much.

wilsby - I just cut the top off and welded in some 3in exhaust pipe to extend them and I also put some 15mm x 5mm flat along the sides to give it the factory look.

I found a pic with the top of a shock tower in it. You can see the exhaust tube extension and the flat strap down the sides. This one has a funny top on it cause when I first made them I had a 2in body lift and when I took the body lift out the top of the tower hit on the brake master cylinder (done know if is a prob for the US guys but worth looking at). So I just clearanced the tower a bit. On the other side where the clearance isnt an issue i just welded the top part of the tower back on.

If you want a better pic I can take one for you.

Thank's Sam, you make it look simple. Maybe it is. No problem with the shock binding on the inside of the tower at full articulation? I have thought of extending the lower part to avoid this...

Never had a problem with the shock binding although I would imagine it would come close. I run Monroe shocks which are a lot bigger OD than a rancho for years and havent had problems (even ran them like this with a hinged radius arm which gave mega travel)

John,
I am running the 12" shocks with fairly stock locations. The problem is there aren't any shocks that have a 16" compressed length that aren't remote reservoirs. You will have to either get taller shock towers or run remotes. In retrospect I would get taller towers if you have room under the hood.

Reread thread name.

You don't have 10" in the front? They have surgery to correct those things nowadays! :flipoff2:
