Ok newbie question here. :flipoff2:
I fawked up the rear diff on my 72 cruiser and now have a few ??'s before I attempt to put it back together.
 1 Can I use a 76 diff with the 72 housing?
 2 Will the 72 axle shafts work with the 76 diff?
 3 If the shafts won't work can I use the 76 shafts in
the 72 housing?

Yes, yes and yes; but you will have to swap the pinion flange from the '72 onto the '76 erd member.

Dont know if that will work. One has fine spline and one may have course. You could put one 76 driveshaft on one end and 72 on the other and hav the 76 driveshaft end going to the new 3rd, or believe you could drill new holes for the pinion flange to match up with the driveshaft.

The pinion flanges will swap between the two thrid members. Fine spline pinions didn't happen untill late '78.

Just another post to confirm....yes, yes, and yes. Coarse spline pinions on all cruisers from like mid-60's thru mid-78.
