Here is one from ProROCK last year.
Lots more pictures here (http://www.4x4wire.com/cgi-bin/gallery/imageFolio.cgi?direct=trailshots/4x4_Trailshots/Competitions/ProROCK/Fernley_2002&img=132). My understanding is that they have done a LOT more work on the courses since then though. I haven't been out there recently to confirm...

Lance, Are you and Mike competing?
rockmutt 04-24-2003, 07:15 PM are those man made courses??
Wilson 04-24-2003, 07:18 PM Yes, mostly man made courses, which is tough on rigs as Tracy noted.

Hey bro, if you still think I dropped you last year, at least let me help you change out some broken axles or somethin'. I still got my team PCB sticker, gonna need a new one though:D
H8monday 04-24-2003, 08:59 PM Me and Maniac will be there.
All thats left to do on the rig is to put an in-line fuel shut off valve, to meet the tech requirements.
And doll it up a little with some new color.
See ya all there!

What do you mean by a inline fuel shutoff valve. Wouldn't an electrical fuel pump quit pumping when you shut it off or maybe your main power shut off would be enough to solve that problem... Another question on the rules would be what the hell is the linelocks going to do for anybody, they held everyone up at reno for hours because of this rule...

I thought he was talking about the rollover valve??? If not, please elaborate, I'm building my new buggae within comp specs...just in case
smalltimewheeler 04-24-2003, 10:59 PM It says you must have a ball valve on all fuel lines including vent lines.
Wilson 04-24-2003, 11:09 PM That's the rule I was familiar with
RealJeepMan 04-24-2003, 11:12 PM Doesnt make any sence to me either:rolleyes:

Have you talked to people running whichever series you may be contemplating? Seems like rules change a lot. Just a thought.
Wilson 04-27-2003, 11:25 PM At this point, Cal Rocs is the only series I'm contemplating and only certain events, at that. This particular rule (rollover valve) will not apply to me anywyas, I'm running LPG.
H8monday 04-28-2003, 06:49 PM I interpeted the rule that stated the need for a ball valve on the fuel lines, as meaning just that. A "ball valve" is what they call the "open and close" shut off valves. The rollover valves have always been in the rules, so I assumed that the ball valve was an update to the previous rules.
If not,.. then I just waisted about $40, in fittings and a valve.
Or maybe I should by a dozen or so Ball valves and fittings and set up shop just outside of Tech on Friday,..I think $75 sounds about right for someone in a mad scramble to pass inspection.:flipoff2:
RedBullJeep 04-28-2003, 08:07 PM I just heard that they brought in 20 more loads of rocks for the courses. They've been filling and stabilising the bigger boulders and that'll make the obstacles a little more predictable though it wasn't really that bad in the first place.
I'm really looking forward to this event as I want some redemption at Fernley...it kicked my ass last year!
For those that say they don't want to compete the man-made courses, I say that's a shame...the best wheeler is the one that can compete anywhere.

"=Ball valves must be installed on all fuel lines including vent lines. Ball valves must be mounted under the vehicle."
This is just another piece of vague RCAA/Cal-ROCKS double speak ...
What good would a manual shut off valve do, Jeff?
Would that be for mechanical fuel pumps only?
No one could get to it in time to do anything.
You gonna put a big red arrow on yer skid plate pointing to it?
They already want a ...
"=Master kill switch that shuts down every electrical system is required to be mounted on the dash, clearly labeled and in proper working order."
They must to be talking about a roll over ball valve ...
Most fuel tanks have roll over spill ball valves on vents to portect against spills to the outside or to the charcoal canister ...
The only thing I have been able to figger out is that they are asking for a gravity ball valve that will close fuel delivery on roll over. And in the case of a tank or rear mounted electrical fuel pump, such a "ball valve" would have to be mounted so the incoming fuel pressure would need to push against a weighted ball in the valve ... because that is the only setup that would work to positively cut off pressure when up side down.
Is that it? Who knows? :shaking:
I already found out the hard way you need a mind reader, a lie detector, and a soothsayer to figger out WTF they are talking about. :shaking:
SAR_Sammy 04-28-2003, 08:39 PM You can bet SAR_Sammy will be there

Many rigs have a seperate switch to power up their fuel pump. If that switch was not in fact ran through the main electrical disconnect(which mine is). then it could and would continue pumping even with the engine shut down, the main switch off, and no poweer to the computer. If a line was ruptured, a high volume pump would spew much fuel, while everyone scrambled to figure out how to shut off the pump,...(pull the wires hint hint). It is probably an insurance generated requirement, who knows?
Last years high speed tumble down the hill at Donner, has made me rethink many safety issues, involving how violently our rigs can roll, durring a competition.
I had considered a big red arrow pointing to the valve,...if they are going to require a valve, it makes sense that they should require labeling to find it, in an emergency.
In any case I didnt make up the rules, or necessarily even agree with it. Im only trying to bring my rig to the event, in compliance.

They can be used as e-brakes instead of stock or factory brakes.

Maybe Kevin did Ron a favor by rolling it...now the rig has reached it's rolling quota for this quarter and he won't have to worry about rolling it himself:flipoff2:

I know the top classes in NMRO mud racing require a SINGLE switch mounted externally at the center, rear of the vehicle that is labeled, and kills power to the engine as well as any & all accessories (many of these guys run more than one fuel pump too). Seems like it'd be a good idea to have that & also to standardize the location of said switch.
