OK fellas, I've heard all of these horror stories of fans exploding and wish to replace the old white (or natural, if you prefer) fan blades that are supposed to be prone to breakage with much carnage. I currently have two in the shop with nasty cracks in the plastic and can't seem to find anyone who can tell me the correct part number for the replacements with the black plastic.

The replacements sent so far have all been reverse rotation (obviously for a vehicle with serp. belt vs multi-V belts) to the vehicles for which I need the part.

Thanx in advance,
Paul

autozone, 18" fan, 5 blade, flexible type, with viscous. Forget the part number, but it is an off the shelf unit. Just walk back there and get it.

John,
How much does this part run? You say it has the viscous unit attached? Does it bolt right in?

Are they available in both rotational directions? The fan I need the blade for is pre-serpentine and turns in the opposite direction.

The last two Rangies in the shop, I was afraid to run the engine the fans were cracked so badly. I have heard many horror stories of the blades shedding from the hub with great carnage and one who had it happen was someone I know and trust.

Peace,
Paul

Paul,
You speak the truth. Although it has never happened to me a good friend of mine had it happen. If your lucky they just go through the hood and only cause body damage, if your not they tear everything up.

Due to having been sent the wrong part by a vendor, I had to send one back to its owner unrepaired. I carefully outlined the cracks in red paintpen. The owner has indicated the truck will be falt-bedded back to me, and it wasn't nearly as bad as the one that's waiting to be worked on!

I don't want to be around when one lets go!

Know a guy that had his face half torn off by a fan blade from a Chevy - a High school shop teacher. He was timing it when one of the blades flew off. A lifetime of pain and suffering in a nanosecond.

Stay the hell away from that fan.

Handbuilt-
I know a gentleman I used to race motorcycles with who nearly lost an arm from an exploding fan blade. The blade began cutting at the wrist and the scar extends to his shoulder blade. He said the last thing he heard was a bang and he woke up the next day to find his arm bandaged.

Life is fatal.

Peace,
Paul
