Post pictures of yours, or just pics that you have, and label what they are, and what they have. I'm trying to figure something out.

Thanks.

Looks like a 4.56ratio 1 ton detriot locker in a 14bolt?CUCV military 4bolt axle. The fronts normally have limited slips in them look for the clutch disc as you rotate the front axles on the front 60.

No expert or anything but the spring inside looks like a detriot locker the limited slips don't look like that or am I wrong?

Two Dogs F..king

you are right about the 4.56 for sure. But the front (right now) is a 10 bolt. It's in my Cheyenne

I have a detoit that I haven't installed and I have a military 14 bolt that look Identical. When you rotate one drum does it clunk in and then rotate the other and clunk again. I never heard a working limited slip clunk before. Just broken ones. Call randy's ring and pinion and ask them. They will help you identify your diff.
I am sure someone on here knows for sure. I'm 98% sure its a locker.

Looks like a Gov-Lock to me...piece of shit.

Spool?

That's what I wanted but Randy's Ring and Pinion has yet to come thru with a full spool. So I opted for the detriot locker.

well from what I hear, it's supposed to be out this summer, and I don't think I'll have the d60 done until end of summer, so... :flipoff2:

OK... wtf do I have then? lol

We need some of the Pirate "experts" to suck it up, and make there way into the newbie board.

It's a Detroit in an open carrier. Wheel it. Gov-lock carriers only have three spiders. Pretty sure there is no limited slip available for a FF14.

Sweet. Does the carrier make a difference in the performance of the Detroit?

That is definitely not a limited slip carrier. As Black dog says it is a open carrier with a detroit in it. I'll shoot a pic of the detroit out of my carrier and one of a detroit that looks identical to yours inside my carrier.

You can't install a Detroit in a Gov-lock carrier, they only fit in a open carrier.

I didn't say it was in a gov lock carrier. I was wondering if the Detroit is supposed to be in an open carrier, or if they have their own type of carrier, but will also work in an open, or what.

But I think your misunderstanding of my question, still answered my question... ...

Dammit, my ignorance of GM products shines through.

Lets try this. The Detroit will only work in an open carrier, and not in a Gov-loc.

:flipoff2:

I understood your question, I just could have answered it better. The only way to install a Detroit in a 14FF is in a stock open carrier like you have. That is why the Detroit for the 14FF is only about $350, the least expensive application there is. You are just buying the guts for the locker, not a new carrier as in most other DL applications. The 14FF uses a very strong split carrier, which allows installation of the DL, and the strength to take the punishment. I was just pointing out that Gov-lock carriers are different, and they are junk unless you want to use the Gov-lock, or weld the side gears to the carrier.

Shouldve got a 60. :D

Yeah, yours looks like a Detroit in the stock carrier. Detroit felt that the 14 bolt carrier was strong enough and there was no need to redesign or remake it.
You probably noticed that the price of a Detroit locker for a 14 bolt is cheaper than say a D60 or D70. It's because you're not buying the carrier, just the internals.
Here's mine,
RC Dana 60
Detroit locker
Spicer 4.88 gears

WHY would I want a dana 60 in the rear of a fullsize truck?
Because they have a spool? :flipoff2: Even with custom axles the 14 bolt is much more fit to be in a fullsize as the rear axle. What's a stock 60 have 1.3" shafts? In a jeep Smart move less weight more ground clearence. Maybe i'm missing something?

Cause mine's got 1.5 inch 35 spline moser shafts! :flipoff2:
Cost wise, next time I'll do a 14 bolt.

I was hoping you had custom shafts with the spool.
What is it under? I am in the process of swapping out a dynatrac rear dana 60 HP in my bronco for a 14bolt. I never had a problem with the dana 60 but I should have gone full float and forgot about the lug pattern (5on5 1/2). This time I bought a front 60 and a 14 bolt 5.13 gears for both detroits f&r for less than I sold the rear 60 and front 44 for.
Thank Beer I got my money out of that dynatrac. :flipoff2:

It's under a cherokee. Full floater. I just learned one of those "lessons" about how expensive 60's are and how inexpensive 14 bolts are. Oh well, I'll know next time.
