anybody else ever have this happen???

I tried to buy this truck over a year ago and bailed out when the bidding exceeded $8,000 so I let it go. Now here it is again for a helluva lot cheaper than I offered.

Reminded me of that million dollar BTB truck Vintage offroad has now, it keeps going up for sale but reappears with the same owner years later???

What happened is that the truck probably had a LOT more rust than whoever outbid you was willing to live with. It's a common source of strife, asking someone from the Northeast about their truck with "little rust" is a sketchy proposition for almost everyone outside of the Rust Belt....

I've seen people in the Northeast pour thousands of dollars into rusted-up Land Cruisers that would have been parted out anywhere else ten years before.

Not quite the same thing but I do keep seeing the same cruisers up for sale. There was a '72 55 in Idaho for $4250 in Jan of this year (it's on rockymountaincruisers.com as well). By the time I saw the ad it was long sold, now it's on ebay and it's in Texas. Seems to be a fair amount of people who find relatively good deals in small markets and turn around and sell them in larger markets. I understand this is a reasonable business practice it just sucks when you are trying to look locally for a good deal. As another example there is a FJ40 that is now in Seattle that is on ebay that the guy bought 1 hr from my house. Too late again.

You know, I truely believe people *bid up* auctions on E-bay all the time. You get the sellers friend with a couple fake identities bidding up your legitimate bid.

When they push you too far and you back out, they don't *really* make their friend buy it. They wait a while then post it again. This could be the case if the same truck keeps coming up and selling from the same owner.

bidding up is as old as auctions themselves....

Damn, the truth hurts!!! Hell most 40's here are completely rotted out when they are ten years old. My first FJ25 was is so rotted, the radiator mounts had fallen out of the front frame crossmember!

I can't believe it when I see some local trucks go up on Ebay (a 45 LWB comes to mind) and people pay big money for them. You usually see it listed again with a caveat like "last buyer was a deadbeat, or backed out". No, he probably ran, ran very fast.

I KNOW THAT 45! haha was sold about 10 minutes from were i live now! hahaha somebody got suckered.

My 40 came with a fair amount of rust...not as much as some up here but enough....and i deffinitly paid to much for what i got but it's my first one...in the words of one 40owner i know "i won't buy em for more than 500.00 dollars anymore...they all have the same issue...rust"

My brother in law does that kind of crap:rolleyes: He tried to get Co Pilot to throw some bids at one of his auctions, I quickly put an end to that.

If your thinking of the one from sudamerica, no. That was solid in comparison. This one was sold by our local bruzr/vintage type person.
