I swapped a complete 76 disk axle under my 72 and now need to know what shafts would work ( I want spares). Aren't they the same as some years of mini truck axle shafts?

Not 100% positive on this but I think 69-up shafts will work. I have a short side out of a 76 that I could get rid of. I am in Hillsboro, let me know if interested.

I know the 40 shafts are different in the drum axle than the disk axle. The drum shafts have like half the number of splines at the hub. I just haven't had luck with finding the disk shafts. I know there has to be some mini with the same shafts.
What do you want for the 76 short shaft?

I know where you live cause I brought springs up to you. It is just when they changed over the board they used my login instead of my board name--- crawlin-----.

email me about the shaft.

Front inner shafts are identical from 1969 on for all FJ40 Cruisers.
Birfields are approximately as follows:

1969-1975 10 spline outers - weak
1976-1978 30? spline outers - much better
1979-1990 60-series 30 spline outers, slightly larger size, and identical to the minitruck birfs. These birfs can be used in 76-78 cruisers if you spend some careful minutes with a hand grinder makeing the axle opening slightly larger. (Do this at home BEFORE you need to swap that minitruck spare in on the trail and realize it doesn't fit....)

.....and inner axles are same for 70 series up to 1990.
(therefore, the cable locker longside of a 70 series, fits a 40 series-but the OEM one is more expensive than CV unlimiteds...)

Short side of 60 series is same as 40 (and 55, and 70) though production.
(long side 60, is long side mini to 1985)

so Joey, rob the inner shafts of the 1972 axle for spares. You will need 1976-1978 birfields for a direct fit, 'mini' birfields (aka 60/late 40, early 70) require the grind.
