I was wondering if anyone has thought about stretching a cruiser axle. I was thinking about cutting the short side in the middle and finding an appropriate size tube / pipe to slide in and making the short side the same size as the long side. Seems like if it could work it would be a good way to get a centered rear axle and a little bit wider.
any other thoughts on this

Setting up the rear axle to run two long side semi-float shafts ia gonna add over 12" of width to your track width. Yowsa....Now, since you need to maintain an offset front axle, you are gonna need two custom front shafts.
IMO, the minitruck conversion, running a centered diff, Cruiser center section, and mini shafts is a nice setup if you wanna remain cruiser-ish and run a centered case.
Otherwise, D60 full width. :D :D

yikes thats a little longer then I expected. I guess the next question is is there a tube that can be slid into the cruiser housing. Seems like you would still be cheaper then d60.

the rear would sound COOL
and im sure you could get away with it, and get some pipe easy as! BUT how would you plan to do the front, and yeah, the cruiser tranny doesnt go to the centre of the rear :(
so yeah spewin, ideas? :emb:

Arne, if you are looking for a semifloater with c-clips (which is what you would get if you lengthened a Cruiser axle), I have a Dana 60 I'll sell real cheap ($300). I doubt you could shorten an axle for that cost. This D60 is 62" WMS wide and has 35-spline shafts and an 8-lug flange (perfect to match that front D60);)
