Just bought a 98 4.0 out of a grand chero. can I use the original wiring harness? or do I have to get something from painless performance or something?

Are you talking about the GC wiring harness or the YJ if it had a 4.0 already. What was in the YJ originally?

If it had a 4.0 in it use the YJ harness, if you don't have that get everything you need from hesco including computer.

I put a 97cherokee motor in my 90 Yj that came with a 258 carb. motor.

well, it was a 2.5L before. I am talking about the wiring harness from the cherokee that I removed it from. I also have the computer from the chero. I asked painless performance and I think I got a computer response that said that they didnt have a harness for my application. they didn't really answer my question., so Hesco or this jeepconnection.com can get the harness I need? what, do I just buy a 98 wrangler harness instead?

Just tell them what you are doing. The computer system for a 98 4.0 is more complecated then the older system. I tried to use the computer I got from the cherokee.

I talked to a guy named Benny at Hesco. The harness and computer I got used 94 sensors. I had to change some of the wiring on the harness to fit the newer sensors and I replaced a couple of inexpensive sensors like temp. sensor. You can probably use the tank and fuel pump you have depending on what year the 2.5L was. You will need to change the fuel rail on the 98 motor to an 95 or older rail that has a regulator on it and a return line. The 98 has one line only because their regulator and return is built in to the top of the tank/fuel pump assembly.

I hope this info helped.

That is quite helpfull. Thankyou.
Where you able to use your computer from the cherokee then? You had to get a new harness, or modify the one you had? how much did it cost to get the whole thing running?
