Anyone have the results from EROCC?

This is just from memory:
Unlimited
1 Ken Blume
2 Ken Shupe
3 Charlie Melchner
4 Troy Myers
5 Jerry Lee Perkins
6 Bryan Hamilton
Dennis Stacy won the Legends class
MasterKenobi81

Ulimited:
1st: Ken Blume (around 63 points)
2nd: Ken Shupe (113 points)
Legends:
1st: Dennis Stacy (136 points)
2nd: Les Allen (155 points)
Hats off to Les Allen first time ever competing and gets second place!
Check out EROCC's website for more details, they'll probably have more up tomorrow. All they have is the results after Day 1, in which Les Allen was 1st place.

I only know the unlimited class results
1. Ken Blume, GO2GUY on the board here - 66pts
Durham rolled several times and once an endo onto his lid that evidently rang his bell pretty good (I didn't see it). He didn't have a good weekend.
Troy had a great weekend going but got a bad fuel leak on one course and it was spraying pretty good and all kind of people hopped in to help stop the leak and he ended up with a 40 on that course. Besides that 40 and the 40 he got on the virtually unclimbable hill course (#1)
after the comp was over several of the competitors took shots at climbing #1 and some guy with a nice buggy that said 'The Freak' in neon pink letters on the side who was first up cleaned the hill on his first shot. I watched a few others try with no success.
was a good time, met alot of guys from here. the guys from MAD4WD (TJfan, big97redtj and another guy from mad4wd) and before anyone asks NO Tjfan's wife wasn't there :D I met Chrispy and several others who's names I forget.
will post my pics later.

Man, there were so many people there, it was hard to see anyone. The unofficial count was 8500 people for both days. I saw Syko, Badassjeepguy (his arm is healing nicely, by the way), and saw a few others wearing (unofficial) hats. I had my official "Your Rig Sucks" shirt on Saturday. (thanks bigdude ;) )

How did Chrispy and Paul do?
They had a lot of trouble with steering all weekend; and then the t-case on 10..
I thought they did real well for a new rig... I never saw them on their lid!
ChrisPy
04-27-2003, 11:26 PM
thanks for the kind words, squirrell :)
we were plagued by steering problems all weekend, which will become a tech topic in another post, as im baffled.
our powertrain consists of a 4.0l, a 727 auto, a Klune V, and a dana 300, which came out of Pauls Trail rig. this combo worked great in a trail rig, as it offered a good variety of gear choices, but we are finding it might be too much for competition
first, with the Klune in 4:1, it makes it very difficult and time consuming to shift in to Front wheel or rear wheel drive quickly, which is almost mandatory in the tight Erocc courses. watching Ken Shupe work front or rear digs is a thing of beauty. we were unable to pull this off without taking several "stops" and "backs" just trying to get it in and out of gear.
secondly, and probably the cause of the destruction on "dingleberry", is the fact that teh Klune box is mounted BEFORE the xfer case. the 4.0 makes about 200 ft/pds of torque, coupled to the 4:1 means that the stock dana 300 box is seeing something along the lines of 800 ft/# of torque ON THE INPUT SIDE when paul is "gettin' it", as he was in that rockgarden. this far exceeds the capacity of the xfer case, and it was only a matter of time before it blew.
the challange to us is to come up with the $$$ to swap out hte klune V 4:1 box (which is currently for sale, and pretty much cherry) for an Atlas, which i think is probably the better choice for competition rigs.
anyway, yes, we were very happy with our rig. we finished it 2 weeks earlier, and, short of a few days in moab, had very little wheeltime on it. for the most part, the suspension performed well, it was very stable and pretictable, and it held together with no cracked welds or bent tubes.
Paul and I have been wheeling recreationally for years, but we were not prepared for the PACE of serious competition events. having 6 or 8 minutes to clear an obstacle that , recreationally, we would ordinarily pick a clean line through and take our time with is new to us, but, we will be ready for June, and fully intend to be competitive.
once paul takes his ass whoopin' from the wife over the current credit card balance, we will discuss powertrain upgrades.

He slammed a rock pretty hard. When he did, it jerked the steering wheel in his hands... he was holding on, but the pressure popped it out of socket. He has a history of socket blow outs, he told me. They finally convinced that hard headed knuckle head to go to the E.R. to get it put back in, from what I hear.

there is a super wallmart, autozone, advanced auto parts, etc etc etc at lafollette at exit 134 on 75, or take hwy 25 AWAY from Jellico when you turn off 90 from Jrocc.
its roughly 22 miles from the site.

Tim did a great job. Darrel and I threw him at the first obstacle to see how he would do, and we ran off to do some other stuff. Normally D and I fight like cats and dogs, but I wasn't feelin' good on Thursday, so I was pretty much "yeah, that looks good". I went back over when Tim was done with #2, he wanted me to look at it. I got over there, and I was like... hahahaha... you really have it out for these guys. It took Darrel and I, with the help of Tim and Nick, nearly all day to setup the course... no, it did take all day. It usually would take Darrel and I 6 hours, but there was a lot of discussion going on during the course setup between the four of us. I think it worked out for the best. By the end of the season, I believe you guys will be looking forward to my obstacles, and hating Tim and D for theirs!! :D

Yeah that was one heck of a ride. I had a bad feeling it was going over but it came back down. The buggy stayed together alot better than I did this weekend. And we definetly gave it ALOT of torture. Just need to fine tune a few odds and ends and we should be a little more competetive in june. We'll see.

The bigger dawgs been takin us to school out west, but Chuck and I are starting to learn from them and do better as a team communicating, planning, knowing what the new "Rock Rod" will do etc.
We met a bunch of people, missed a few, get them next time, don't be shy about stopping by at comp or camp.

Thanks... that is what we were going for. We want you guys to be able to display them rather than hide them. :)
Stick around for the series... I'm working on an idea for the Series trophy's that will be able to be displayed indoors OR outdoors. :D

I'ml trying to find time to look through all these awesome pics! It's funny how long it takes! NEWay, congrats to the winners. Wish I could have been there.

Is it really legal for a competitor to move an obstacle with his winch cable?
And who was it?

i can't say if it's legal or not. but I for one thought it was VERY poor sportsmanship since the guy didn't even try to climb the obstacle but was merely prepping the course for the next guy.

As far as the rules are concerned it is no different than winching yourself from a stuck and moving a rock in the process. You can winch to trees over 12", Rocks, Vehicles, etc. If someone chooses to take the 30 point winch penalty and winch to a rock that will move instead of moving their vehicle it is fully legal. Sportsmanship is another question. But if it's perfectly legal within the rules then can it really be "unsportman-like conduct"????
I know from my standpoint if it's within the rules it doesn't bother me.

O.K. just wanted to know if it was legal or not.
Maybe it could be good sportsmanship. If you thought you had no way to better yourself in the competition and you wanted to help the guy behind you out.
I had left early and did not actually see it and was just curious what did happen

The guy that did it (forgot his name) was from the Badlands. The guy behind him was Troy Meyers from the Badlands. So, you can figure that one out

that's a good point Kevin. I guess to some degree it's really no different than in NASCAR where a teammate will do what he can to hold up another driver when his teammate is going for the win. this guy was just trying to help his teammate possibly finish better.

The thing you have to remember is this, what is fair for one is fair for all. It that rock "pull" was legal, then so be it, but I thought it was a rock crawling competition, not a "let me pave a road for my buddy to ride up competition" What was freakin hilarious was Troy still couldn't make it. Maybe next time his buddy will bring a D-9 Cat to clear Troy's way:flipoff2:

Well maybe a mog with the backhoe attachment then you just use the bucket to pull yourself up. Would not be winching, spotter could ride and you could put the rocks were you wanted them:)

Is it really any different then our team getting hung on an obstacle and moving the boulder that hung us while winching out of a stuck??? We just paved the way for the rest of the competitors (similar to the action in question).
It might not be fair to the people who have already run the obstacle, but that's the way it goes. Look at how dug out a lose hill climb can get over a weekend, there is a lot of "luck of the draw" involved in it.

I saw a team last year that had broke on an obstocle with no hope of finishing and remove some of the rocks that they had stacked before they timed out.
I see this (and winching a rock out of a teamates way)as stratagy not bad sportsmanship. Because nomatter how many beers you drink back at the hotel or what you do to help someone when you broke its still a comp and the object is to win.

It's one thing to alter an obstacle when trying to accomplish something like get yourself unstuck, but that's totally different

Would it be "gay as shit" if you had done it to better yourself???
Say winch a rock out of your own way, take a 30 for the winch, then complete the obstacle because you did so???
I don't know the specifics of the situation but perhaps that was the case and he just didn't finish the obstacle....

I don't really have a comment, but he did not do it for himself. He winched the rock out of the way...stacked some rocks near the top into some crevices, then got in his buggy and drove off the obstacle. He did not even try it  Troy was next in line warming up.

Sounds like teamwork :flipoff2:
Also maybe he knew he couldn't make it so decided to do what he could to give someone the opportunity to :D

What was he doing jumping jacks :flipoff2:
BTW I think the veicle in question had 3wd at the time due to an axle break and a fubar'd winch that wouldn't have pulled his vehicle up that climb even if he tried. In that case why not screw with the course to pass the time :D

I think it really sucks that all the big rocks on #8 got pulled out of the way but like Bigdude said it is luck of the draw. I know he would have liked to see them out of the way cause he and most people that did that got hung on them and timed out.

if it wasnt against the rules... i think it was good strategy and team work..... this is comp.... its not a trail ride! the trail rides i do you dont move rocks...etc... in comps if you stick to your way of trailriding... you will loose. so are you competing to try and win, or are you competeing to enjoy a hard trail ride? if its the later , you can do that with much less $$ for the entry fee's
