do you leave the thrust block in?

Ive got a M20 from a wagoneer, and a carrier from a CJ, the Fullsize axles dont have the shimmed clearance deal like the Cjs so there isnt any need for the block right?

I fugure Ill spend 3 hours cleaning and 30 minutes welding ( allowing for cooling time)

I just dont trust the lockrite's strengh with a 360/T18 and 35 inch tires.

Call me goofy, but I trust the Lock Right more than the AMC 20 case. I agree with your direction though, I also prefer spools and Lincoln Lockers over automatic lockers.

While I suspect that with any luck you will be fine with either approach, but I have seen lots of Lock Rights hold up really well, including mine in the AMC 20 and now my front Dana 60. The relatively thin case walls on the 20 would scare me however.

After cleaning use a torch to preheat the gears. It will burn away the rest of the oil(no you cant clean it all) and make for a much better weld.

I appreciate your reply!
half of hte idea is strenght, the other half is saving some coin, I can weld it for free, and use the $$ for the front, sincehte front traction device fund has been impeding my axle build up!

I dont really see how the lockrite can be any stronger than a welded diff case, since the lockright biases off of the same diff case?
