Anyone know what the internal diameter of the Salisbury Stub axle is? Will it bolt up to a regular D1/D90/Rangie axle flange?

Don't know offhand, but it is just larger than the salisbury axle, which is 33% larger (diameter) than a 10 spline axle.

The salisbury had the same rear stub axles as other rovers, so all should be interchangeable (rear-rear only).

the stubs themselves are the same size as the rover axles on d90's/rangies etc.

the wheel bearings are the same, so the outside diameter of the stub is the same, and the 6 bolt patterns are all the same, howeber the drum braked salisbury stub has a different back to it where it mates up with the end of the axle tube. (the salisbury is flat where the front axle stubs have loads of metal on them and the bronze bush for supporting the driveshaft).

can post some pics if you need?

What is the maximum diameter of the Sals axles (splines included). Such that it will fit through the stub axle. The regular rover has a max diameter of 1.25 at the oil seal surface. I had to bore my stub axles out about 20 thousanths to get some Maxi 30 splines in (max diameter about 1.3 or so).

I'll measure them when i get home, but they (the salisbury shafts) are a close fit in the stubs.

don't know the dia. but you would have to bore a sal. stub axle to fit 1.30 axle shaft threw it and have to get a new stub axle for the 35 spline 1.5 axle shaft

Yeah, what he said!

And I think this depends on the year of the Salisbury. Mine is a 1996 and it has disk brakes instead of the drums like you would find on the older ones. Interesting enough, it has the same spindles as my '95 D90 and uses the same hubs and brake rotors. I actually swapped front hubs and rotors off of an older non-vented rangie onto the Salisbury after I found out that the hub was buggered and they were the same part #s and fit perfect.

The only difference I can see from my salisbury to the regular rover axle is that the axleshafts are slightly shorter due to a larger carrier. However, I haven't measured, so I couldn't tell you exactly. I'm running the GBR 24 spline stuff and haven't had any problems and I'm sure you could bore the spindle to fit your 30 spline 1.3 axles. You may even be able to use your same axleshafts, but I would measure carefully and install them once with the cover off and check clearances. I believe Macnamara has a 1.5" 35 spline conversion with different spindles and hubs or something like that.

Good luck!!!
