howdy,
anybody got the info on installing an Atlas to an AX15 in a 89 YJ (4.2L).
I'm interested in:
>if a body lift is needed ( I don't really want to raise my CG)
>triming the body
>If the skid plate needs to be modified
>what trans mount to use
>already guessed that I'll need front and rear drive shafts.
I've looked over the documents that AA published for the TJ but I don't know if it would apply
I've also found stuff on POR but most of it was in regards to belly up skid plates and SBChevy stuff. and my jeep is very stock, just a lift kit.
I got all my pennys saved up, and it is time for me to start gathering parts.
thanks greg

minor mods to the skid required. no body lift necessary, no trimming of trhe body. just use the right rotation and you'll be fine. body mods are only necessary when clockng it flat. ;)

I had to modify both the skid plate and the mount to the skid plate to lift the t-case up higher.

so what kind of skid plate mods are we talking about?
>cut clearnace for the the drop, so it can be clocked away from the body?
> drill 4 new holes to move the mount back?
thanks

yeah, I've seen that site, but it is for a TJ, and the link on that site to a YJ instillation leads to a club home page, with no YJ write up.
That guy also says that the YJ was more straight forward.
I just want to see what other people have done as a sanity check, and avoid the booty fab.
Thanks
Greg

I don't know why you would need to move the mount back any:confused: The mount bolts in the same place.
I had to hack a section out of the crossmember reinforcment rib.
I also used some plates between the tranny mount and the t-case adapter to raise the case up some away from the crossmember.

I have a 1" Body Lift, and clocked the atlas as flat as the transfercase would allow (last clocking position available by the transfercase).
I did not hit the body, and have about 3/4" clearance between body and transfercase, the skidplate is fine, and not in the way at all for me...

I had to get a new transmission mount, and trim the adapter/part that was left on as it hit the atlas because I clocked it so flat.
Other than that it wasn't near as hard as the manual said it would be...

i agree- you are keeping the same tranny which mounts to the same skid- no new holes needed unless you relocate the skid.

Greg-
The stock tranny mount should not be retained in the stock
location. The stock skid pan will need modification to allow for the
Atlas. A body lift of about 2" can be use to avoid modifications to the
skid pan or tub. The shifter should install with out trimming the tub, but
you will have to trim the shifter. Please call for more information or to
place an order.
**We offer a free buyers guide (with part #'s & prices) or a $10 tech
manual or to order on line www.advanceadapters.com (catalog order).
Thank You,
Steven

I have a 94YJ, and a 1" BL, I used the CJ/YJ (new style) tranny mount found at any 4Wheel Parts store.. I believe it was a Daystar Tranny Mount.
I then "trimmed" the stock mount(not bushing, as I removed that part) that is on their to begin with, bolted the new Daystar one up, and then put my skid up and I was good to go.
I also clocked the atlas ALL the way.
I trimmed about 3" of the tub AROUND the "Front" shift lever for clearance.. remember your tub / atlas flex indepndently so I realized if I only left 1/4" of room they would rub so I cut a little more.
I made a new tranny cover with some sheetmetal, and cut-out the holes for the AX-15 Shifter, and the 2 Atlas levers, put on the boots, and was good to go.
