: New Spicer 1480 Joints
WOLF359 11-18-2001, 11:09 AM I saw at the local Spicer shop yesterday a 1480 series joint for a 1998+ Dodge application that was of the new, stronger style with the forged cross, like the new 5-760x for the D44.
It had snap-tight caps and was greasable.
The only problem was that it had outside snap ring caps instead of inside.
The shop is looking to see if they can find one with the inner snap rings that can be used on a D60 front.
Has anyone researched this yet and come up with the right joint. Jess? Anyone? They certainly look to have some nice features - great sealing caps, stronger cross, and greaseable.
Tim

So are these for the driveline or the D60 ujoints?
any reason that I cant just put the inner caps on the greaseable cross?
let me know as that is what i will be doing in the next couple of days.
other then the seals dont look like they will like having grease pushed through them it looks like it will work
onetoncv 11-19-2001, 11:33 AM yes they are the driveline u joints - i'll check into it-Jess

Not what I am talking about at all.
The joint that we are looking for is a Spicer 1480 STAMPED, forged cross, not a cast cross with a grease fitting and Snap tite caps. The joint I found is a 1480, stamped, snap tite greaseable, but it has outer snap ring caps.
You need inner snaps rings for Dana 60 front steering knuckles.
You can get a greaseable 1480 series by ordering almost any generic 322 non HD 1480 series joint. Rockwell, Super brute etc. all make NON HD crosses that are greaseable, which is exactly from what I can tell, this picture shows. Heck, I have about 8 of them in the garage right now.
onetoncv 11-20-2001, 04:35 PM part # spl55-1x boys is for the forged 1480 driveline outside snap ring joint - i'm going to check soon to see if we can swap caps- froma 332 joint and come up with our oem snap 1480 wheel joint -Jess
WOLF359 11-22-2001, 01:47 PM Jess, All,
Spicer SPL55-4X.
1480, Forged Cross, inner snap rings, snap-tite caps, greaseable.
I have 4 of them coming later today, i'll take pics tonight and post.
There were only 8! of them in all of Canada, so they don't sound too common :)
Tim.

1480 series is for the Dana 60. The 5-760x is 1310 series for the Dana 30/44.
