LOL
Just got off the phone with SOR.

I have a small exhaust leak on my turbo manifold in the cruiser and was looking for a way (other than the right way of taking it to a machine shop and having it resurfaced) to seal it up.

Called the order line knowing that I was going to order something (just not quite sure what) And ended up with Joe M shmoe on the phone.

Me "Can you tell me the differences between the kevlar intake manifold gaskets and the stock ones??? "

Shmoe "One is metal the other is kevlar"

Me "okay, I have a stock exhaust manifold would the kevlar manifold work well for it?"

S "They are designed for differen't things"

M "How are they designed for differen't things??? they both seal up a manifold to a head???"

S "have you seen a header?? Do you know what the differences are???"

M "yep, pretty much just runner length"

S "so there would be a lot more vibration in the header unit"

M "okay, I am running a Turbo with the stock manifold, so there would be more possible vibration. Which one would you reccomend??"

S "...........Huh, who is doing that for you???"

M "I am doing it."

S "Uh... well.... since that has such a limited application I could not answer your question"

M "Okay, give me the stock gasket Blah Blah Blah..."

LOL
Love it somehow the header gasket is designed for something different than the stock intake gasket.

Enough of my ramblings..
Anyone have any goos suggestions on sealing up the exhaust manifold to the head???

Ultra Copper.

I use it on my SBC 350. No leaks. Never. Not one in 2 engines, 5 manifolds and 8 years on 2 SBC in one Cruiser.

Don't hate me! 2 of those Kevlar gaskets will solve the problem. Aspirin and beer will solve the other problem :D

Well, we just don't have enough information here. Just what are you trying to seal up, and what is the application and what color is your truck. With that information we can help.

Sorry couldn't resist. I know the double kevlar gasket trick works on headers, sometimes. You might also need to check the exh. manifold for warping and may need to mill flat.

Mace on the advice of an old gearhead here.....I have used double gaskets, sometimes 2 OEM or one of each or 2 Header type on all F & 2F's I do intake/exhaust work on........he wrenched on the old stovebolt Chevy's long before I ever started, I have never had one come back leaking since. I also coat them with a light layer of ultra copper, all surfaces.

I figured I would try the double gasket trick.

for the ultra copper stuff, is this the tube or the rattle can variety?

It comes in both. But I would imagine the silicone would work better???

Because the fittings are completley rusted together and I don't have the time to let it sit for three hours in a tank of WD40

:flipoff2:

Trust me, the milled intake will be going on soon...

I just need the cruiser fully functional by the next cedar city event..

Specter sent me some wrong parts a year ago, so I just tried man-a-fre... Well, tried. I called and talked with Mr Jo-bob parts guy on the phone, and ordered a new master cylinder and a clutch line hose about 12 days ago- I noticed that I hadn't been charged for it yet, so I called today to check up on it. Well, from what I was told today, I didn't order anything. They found nothing at all. Hooray. He told me that he would take care of it right then- but I said screw it- I'll get it somewhere else...

Spectre is your best bet, you just have to be careful who you talk to. I have the advantage of being close enough that I have a personal relationship with them. But just remember when you start ripping someone for screwing up your order, how many mistakes did you make at work today? These guys are trying to get you parts for rigs that they have never seen, and there are 2 bazillion ways to build a rig depending on what your doing. Trying to keep up with what everyone is doing would be impossible. The guy that takes your order at Spectre isn't the guy that pulls the parts. I have dealt with every Cruiser shop in the LA area, (TLC, Spectre, MAF) and Spectre is the best. Although I do have a new connection at another shop which has been great so far.
