Ok first off If I get a 14 bolt welded up will I have problems on the road? Second what rotors and calipers are used in the disc brake conversions? Is the yoke coming out different then my stock 10 bolt out of a 2000 gmc?

THen how much you think a 2000 Chevy 1/2 ton 10 bolt 3.73 gears with a stock lockers with disc is worth?

Any help majorly helpful.

FInally opinions on gear ratio for 39.5" boggers 5.13 sound good for mostly street driving?

People do it but it is far from ideal. Both tires will always turn at the same speed so when you go around a corner the tires will make noise and wear more.

A guy named Shaker on the board makes brackets to use Chevy or Caddy calipers. More info is available on his site (http://www.shakerbuilt.com/14_Bolt.html).

The yoke on the 10 bolt is -probably- a 1310 joint and the yoke on the 14 bolt is -probably- a 1350. There is a guy on this board goes by the name onetoncv. He runs a shop called High Angle Driveline (http://www.highangledriveline.com/) and could set you up with whatever you need. Depending on how much you lift your truck and the differences in pinion length between the two axles you might need to lengthen or shorten your driveshaft anyway.

Not very much. Maybe $200 if someone else can use the disc brakes.

What kind of motor are you running? Those gears sound about right for a small block. Boggers wouldn't be my first choice for mainly street driving though.

OK, First off, my welded 14 bolt was nothing short of spectacular on the street. With 4.10 Gears, 39.5 Swampers, 300HP 350, SM465.
It would help to know what motor you're running. And tranny.

Second. I think the 10 bolt stock locker is a govlock. AKA junk.
10 bolt + large tires = Broken 10 Bolt
Depends on what you think you are going to do with it. IMO it's worth next to nothing on a big truck.

Yeah I was just thinking to the avg. consumer maybe for a hot rod or something like that. Thanks for the help lots of info. I'm just debating the welded thing. I have the 5.3 liter in a 2000 gmc with sfa conversion. Getting my 14 bolt tonight and dana 44 front sometime next week using that til I can later afford a nice dana 60.

With the cost of a Detroit for the 14b why not put a detroit in it?

how much are they?

You need to do a little legwork of your own bro. Detroits for 14 bolts are only about $325 because they are a drop in locker, kind of like a Lockrite for other applications, it does not replace the entire carrier.

I bet you could get some body to pay good $$$ for that stock crapy 10 bolt on E-bay. On this site you won't find anyone who would want it but there is another story.

Stock u-joint in the rear of your truck is a 3R.
14 bolts are 1350:)

hmmm that is cheap for a detroit I will probally just take that route. So does that mean If I put the gears in for now will I have to ruin the mesh to put in a detroit? Or will it just go in and I can remove the spider gears.

You are correct, you will not need to setup the gears again.

If your swapping in a 14 bolt from 88 up, it will have a 3R joint in it. I put in a 14 bolt from a 92, and had that joint. Older style, than a 1350.

just currious but if your gonna drive it mostly on the street why big boggers and a locker. its just not practical.
