: Yard sale this weekend...
I *hate* the pre-sale crap :mad3:
Dig it all out, put prices on everything, etc. etc.
Hope we make some money for the trip to AZ :D
bah... pre pricing... phooey.
tag the 2 or 3 dozen big items. Everything else, make up a price on the spot.
Have a rough idea what you want, then tell them a few bucks more.
If you want $5 for something, you tell them you're asking $8 but that you'd take $6. They'll probably offer $4, so you say you'd take $5. :D
but some stuff you need to just give away. consider it a loss-leader.
Biggest is the box, after box, after box of bably clothes we have. You kinda gotta price them, they range from $1 to $5 or so...
Hope to rack up a couple hundred right there - especialy since some people buy box fulls of that stuff at a time.
I am headed out to the shop tomorrow night to round up some tools to sale, welder, mower, tires, wheels, etc...
baby clothes - you won't get shit for them. We had NEW items, still had the tags on them. Pennies on the dollar. Fawkin cheapskates.
tools, kitchen appliances, old fishing tackle, old glass bottles, picture frames - that's where the money is.
Mustard Dog 04-29-2003, 07:55 PM Hey, if this is a for profit event you better have a vendor star:D :flipoff2:

Odd - around here the baby clothes are BIG MONEY
not here.
Maybe I should have shipped my boxes full of them to you.
Just to get rid of ours, we went down to $0.25 per item/set. :(
ForestCam 04-29-2003, 08:05 PM Best thing to do with baby clothes is sepperate them into boxes for the different amounts and get some of those little round colored labels to stick on them to show which box they came out of.

We have a lot of ladies who do consignment shops who will buy $50-$100 worth at a time... Expectant mothers will do the same too.
Anyway - just hope we get rid of some clutter and make some $$$$$ too.
I placed the ad in the paper today for this weekend, listed "baby clothes, toys, tools" etc... hope that draws people in :)
Do you guys have those professional garage sales people that try to come over to your house the night before the sale?how about the people who show up too early in the morning?
There's tons of them around here, they're so bad that they are telling people that they will come over and help you set up the night before just to get first dibs.
GonPostal 04-29-2003, 08:36 PM The only difference between a yard sale and garbage day, is how close your stuff comes to the curb..... :flipoff2:

Frontline works on parasites. :D
Yeah, we had those at my mom and dad's. Talk about slimy-feeling...

Yeah, had them come early before.
Last year, I started parking the truck crossways at the road-end of the driveway until we were ready to open :p
Schly 04-29-2003, 08:51 PM I helped my mom and dad do their garage sale one year in Florida. Ad said "No early birds." and "Starts at 7AM SHARP, NO EXCEPTIONS!"
They still had people knocking on the door at 6:45 and when the garage door came up, we got rushed before we could even put the tables out on the driveway so people could actually get INTO the garage to shop!
I was stunned at the pushiness and down right rudeness of these people.
It truly is a competition. :(
surveyboy 04-30-2003, 08:45 AM when my wife and I started getting ready to move out on our own, we hit a couple of yard sales to try and pick up a few house items. There was this one group of 5-8 people that had been running as a pack for a while. they were talking knew eachothers names, before the 'sale' started, as soon as it was going though, you could see them almost fighting over items. so we said well lets try another one, and damn if they weren't there about 10 min later doing the same damn thing.
we decided at that point, we just didn't have what it takes to go to garage sales.

Bobzooki 04-30-2003, 08:55 AM Do you sell it an inch at a time, or all 36 inches at once?
:flipoff2:
PTSchram 04-30-2003, 08:57 AM I would sooner have my teeth removed without anesthesia than conduct a garage/yard sale.
Roll-off bins are cheap and effective for cleaning out the house. Last year, 30,000 pounds worth.
Peace,
Paul
madmarx 04-30-2003, 08:59 AM Come on David, give us a list of the tools and tires and stuff, with prices. You know, the wheeling type stuff...

My wife is a yard-saler. She pulled into someone's driveway at 4:00 a.m. once to be the first in line for a Little Tykes playhouse for our daughter. Wasn't so brash as to actually beat on the door though. If you REALLY want to enforce the "no earlybirds", you have to block your driveway completely.
BTW, baby clothes are $.25 per outfit around here (edit, that's $.25 for good stuff, as low as a nickel otherwise. Some folks will say "$1 for everything you can stuff in a Wal*Mart bag").

How is your Spanish?
Last Sale we had it seemed that every other person was a non/poor english speaking person.
Oxjockey 04-30-2003, 01:16 PM I was going to bet it was an AC-225, but I wasn't brave enough. :flipoff2:
Grim Reaper 04-30-2003, 01:18 PM BTW lets see some pictures of the rims. I'm looking for both my tow rin and my camper. The Toy rims are the right pattern for the camper. Whats the size (width). On the Ford rims is 99 one of them years where fod wanted to be different and it's not the standard 8 lug pattern that's been in use for the last 30years?
RawkRash 04-30-2003, 01:42 PM A friend offers $20 a box for baby clothes.
They make great shop rags. Nice and soft and absorbent. Kinda sad, but they're cheaper than the shop rags at the auto parts stores and they work way better.
It wouldn't fly at my house, 'cause we've got babies and the rags would just move upstairs, but he's single . . .

Hobart Handler 135 is for sale too - $350 and it is barely used :)
Joe_W 04-30-2003, 08:53 PM Whats the b/s on dem dere Jeep wheels? (I'm interested if less than standard..2" would be nice)
Yard sale went good I guess - sold the AC welder for a whopping $125
Cleared about $350 total, took a load of unsold crap to the dump afterwards, happy :)
