Well since we're on the subject I'm looking at buying a t-maxx used and if anyone has advice on this deal let me know....

Top-O-line shocks (AL bodys, caps, with the theading to adjust hight and stiffness)

AL Front upper and Lower control arms.

Titanium front diff stabilizer.

EXTREAMLY Beefy AL Chassis (should be best you can buy)..

New Gas tank w/ seals.

New motor... (Traxxis repair exchange programe... new maybe has 1/2 gallon through it) Stock motor but I have a perf. Muffler and intake.

I have 2 sets of tires...
1 set has crome tri-stars with monster claw tires and the other set has the crome fanblades with paddle tires (for snow and sand)

I just got a compleat look over at the shop with new one way bearing, new needle valve one the carb, 90* fitting, rebuild front servo, and some other small miss stuff. It has not been run since them repairs.

It also has a AL rear skid plate, and Brand new front plastic one.

Also, I will include and controler, battary w/ starter, my tool box w/ all the tools (small screwdrivers, plyers, etc etc, and will include some spair parts and a fuel quirt bottle. Ill toss in the quick charger for the starter battary. It can be pluged into a house Or it has little aligator clips so you can charge off a car battary! The I have a lot of mis. stuff.

The stock plastic body is alittle beaten but (cracks) but as you see in the pics it looks and works fine. Stuff that I did not include in the last posts was I have the stock rims and tires, but I think one or two are damaged. I have a Subaru WRX body all painted, decaled and I cut some air vent holes in it. I you want I also have a Hummer body. It is just painted (but really horribly) and not even cut out. Finally, I have the kit to make a "SUV" body work on it. It is still in the package and never used.

Guy want $450 and it seems like a pretty good deal. I'm not into this junk for racing or anything I just want to spool both ends, add a tube chasis, and beat the crap out of it. Any info is appreciated.

Stock motor is gay.

Check out local hobby shops for consignment cars. I would much rather buy a car that I can look at, and see whats going on with it. There are tons of T-Maxx's out there so you can be pickey.

I would buy a new one just because they are fun to assembly:D

I really don't care if the top speed is 30 or 40. This bitch is going to run the same trails my jeep does :D

bigdude,
I dont run nitro (electric only), but $450 sounds steep for a used rebuilt truck, especially since new trucks are under $400. Granted there are a few parts on it, like the shocks and frame, but for what you would want to do with it, a new stocker or a used (save some $$) sounds like the way to go.

Here is why you buy new: go look in Gen Tech. Look at all that horse shit, backwards booty fab that adults are doing to shit they have to ride around in. Now imagine how good they were at putting things together when they were kids:flipoff2: Thats who you would be buying a used T-Maxx from:flipoff2:

Paddle tires suck on the rocks. I used some mini BFG look-a-likes on my NMT in moab, seemed to work well, but everything stick on that crap.
:flipoff2:

WireGeek

Also,
the aluminum parts on the truck only mean that more expensive parts will break instead of the cheap arms. The al skidplate is nice, but you can get them cheap. as for paddles or other tires, try _bay you will probably be able to pick up what you want very cheap.
Where did $500 come from? towerhobbies.com shows $399 for a new 2.5 Tmaxx

Aron82
05-01-2003, 11:06 AM
Personaly I would not get a t-max. The 2nd clutch in the transmission makes the truck feel spongy in its starts. Just think that there are better offerings out there. That having been said Associated's new monster should be out soon and that is bigger and has a larger engine.
The HPI has a larger engine and more suspension.
The XTM (haven't seen one in real life yet) looks like a good chassis.
If I were to get a nitro MT I would get either the Kyosho mad force (three speed tranny, solid axles and .21 power), or the HPI.
Go here and check prices, that seems steep.

OK, I see where the ~$500 comes from, but then $450 for a used (kind of unknown condition) should also seem high.

BTW, RC trucks even work to get dates! My 14year old son was driving my Emaxx on the beach in Destin FL when we were there 2 weeks ago, and met (ran into) a cutie that he cant get off his mind. Fortunately (or unfortuantely, depending) the girl lives near Jacksonville FL, so he shouldnt get too attached. The only problem is now he spends all his waking time either IM'ing her or talking about her!

I spent some time on ebay cruising and did see quite a few of these babies for cheaper but they don't come with all the little stuff and that can add up I guess. I don't really want to spend a hell of a lot of time f@cking with this thing. I just want something to spool and run :D

Go down to your local hobby store and see which brand of truck they have alot of replacement parts for.

I have a Tmaxx and can go to any of the 4 local shops around here while my friend with his Ofna truck has to special order his junk. The prices between the Tmaxx and his Ofna truck are crazy also. Anytime he breaks a part its usually over $20 while the Tmaxx is 1/2 the price.

I wouldn't pay over $350 for an older used Tmaxx. There are alot of people that had the older trucks and dumped alot of cash into them and they are now selling them to get the 2.5 Tmaxx. So you can usually get a good deal on them. Check ebay also, theres a ton of listings.

Heres a poser picture of 3 older Tmaxxs.

Later.

Just MHO, but if you are getting an RC truck to play around with on the trail, don't go with a gas motor, go electric. MUCH less sh#t to carry to make the truck run. No fuel, no starter battery, no starter. Plus those small gas motors can be rather picky about running. An electric will charge from your rig's battery, then it's just go and play. If someone wants to talk to you then it's just stop it and talk, not worring about it sitting there idling, burning up it's fuel.

How are you going to do the straight axle upfront. I know they have a straight axle rear.

What tires are you running on that Pajero. I hae heard that the HPI tires and rims fit nicely onto trucks like your pajero and my F-150

I'm going to cut out/remove all of the front suspension, and then work in a 3-link. Knuckles will be some aftermarket aluminum ones, and the axle shafts will be cut down and soldered back together. The front driveshaft is going to be a bitch, still working on figuring out how to do it.

The tires are Pro Line Dirthawg I's...They fit nicely, but I am also running some longer shocks front and rear to help with flex. The tires and wheels fit, and look good too. I cant seem to find my digital camera, so I cant take any pics now, evem though it is sitting next to me. I also have two of the kit Hummers, one is a parts vehicle and the other is a fully locked trail Humvee...Painted camo too. The body that came on the parts Hummer is an authentic LAPD SWAT paintjob...

Ok, I'm going to date myself a bit here.... I built my first RC car back in the late '60s. Took a Cox dune buggy, did a bit of surgery to it, added a couple of servos, and had a running gas RC buggy. It had an .049 engine, worm gear drive, solid rear axle, absolutly no suspension other than the tires. I ran the hell out of that little thing until one day it finaly gave up and actually broke in half! since then I have run several RC cars and buggys and it seems like every time I look at getting another they have gotten more expensive and have fancier suspensions and gear trains....

I wonder if I can find an old Cox buggy around....

I did exactly what you said and WOW!

I've been into R/C for years, and my new TXT-1 with 94YJGuy's mods is more fun than any of the others. A nitro powered truck could not even begin to go where this truck can. The slipper clutch on a nitro car is to much to overcome for crawling.

The best part is, now I can go out to my private rock garden in the yard, drink beer and wheel until late into the night, ( rigged up some cool little rock lights ;) ) And not bother the neighbors.

Try that with a nitro car.

Here's a couple pics.

O I also have 4 Tamiya Blackfoots. I am trying to build a single WORKING truck out of the 4. SO far it's been a PITA.

I have one of those:flipoff2:

I haven't touched my trucks or off-road rigs since I got my Serpent. I have lots more fun on the pavement at 60+mph:D

I clocked my RC10LS(electric) at 53 a while back. Full carbon fiber chassis aluminum shocks and high wind modified motor.

That thing flew. The truck and buggy also haul ass but are more around 35-40mph.

What was the first TRaxxas monster truck called?

I have one of those too.

EDIT* hmm.. maybe not the first one. The one with the double shocks and all the white nylon parts. I can't find the name anywhere.

I know the owner of RC4WD, he specializes in alot of the harder to find stuff.. the sweet axles for scale crawler are like $90 each they are RU or something axles from Germany...

For building a beast of a crawler I would use TXT-1 axles they are identical to the Rockwells :D

If you want to build a big-ass crawler and not wory about driveshafts.... go with Tamiya Clodbuster axles, since the motors mount to the axles no driveshafts!!!!

Did they shrink the T/E-maxx?

I thought it was 1/8 scale. All the new one's are 1/10 scale.

Uhh..I knew that...:flipoff2: No really, I did. Just too tired to think about sizing shit right now. :D

Edit: Wait, I'm right. If a real truck gets bigger, a 1/10 model of it would be the same as a 1/8 model of the truck before it got bigger. Damn, I amaze myself with my stupidity sometimes, but then come back with something amazing. :D :D

Im looking at for a gas powered truck, and I keep thinking i need a savage 21, any reason not to get one?? alsothinking about nitro MT

new to gas trucks had a bone stock eletric rustler for a long time, but charging batteries all the time got lame

Monkeyboy

In my opinion gas trucks just aren't as good for crawling.

If you want to haul ass get the gas.

Todd W

It's nitro not gas btw.... anyway..

Nitro isn't as good for crawling because nitro like gas motors requires the engine to atleast get into a higher RPM band before power is created.. higher meaning even above 300 or 400rpm while an electric motor has the most power / pop right out of the line, also a constant speed/power stream for RC Crawling.

Another note - for RC Crawling a good battery will last until you are bored, my TXT-1 went about 1-2mph and I never used all the batteries! The servo's are what use it more than the motors when you are crawling.

www.ballisticbatteries.com - Yes you can REALLY tell the differenc between good batteries, and shitty batteries. Good batteries will be good - and then at the last 1-2minutes drop off and just DIE not slowly die.. A good charger is a must .. Reedy Quasar or a Reedy Quasar pro is what I used.. they kicked ass!

I had some of the 2600NIMH and 2400NiCad, they have new batteries now that I haven't even heard of/checked out that are supposed to last even longer and have more power!!!

When I went from my crappy Radio Shack batteries to a set of the good 2400nicads I roasted my rear axle shafts the first run (spooled rear too) so I got Titanium and never had a problem since :) I loved my E-max had so much time and $$ into it.. now it's in my jeep!!!

get a TXT-1 and do a .21 nitro conversion.

skulltoy
05-06-2003, 06:46 AM
I bought a txt-1 the other day, it is works awsome! My only complaint is the steering, I have a 3 channel radio, so I wired it so that I could turn the front and rear seperately. I also have high torque servos, and they don't work for shit. What servos do you guys use to get them to turn? 1/4 scale stuff?

300-400 RPM you are stil on the starter box waiting for it to run:flipoff2:

I use a quarter scale airtronics servo with 136 oz of torque. It works prety well. i am thinking of switching to an EVX and dual packs, or just changing up to the mag mayhem motors, they are supposed to work pretty well, more torque than most 540 motors.
