engine code help

Hi all
i just rebuilt my 2.9 in my 87 bII
when i got it running it surges and sputters like mad.
it will stall as soon as it gets warm.
the codes i got were 95 and 87
code 95 in haynes book is "fuel pump circuit open- eec processor to motor ground"

code 87 is "primary fuel pump circuit failure"


it says in my book to do the first code to come up first , and that was code 95
now i am no mechanic so were to start is a mystery to me.
my truck has been off the road for 8 months now and i would realy like to drive it , but i wont untill it is fixed.
can anyone give me some direction please?
