: SOA, SRS, 4" Springs, 38.5's = Rubbing Fenders

The 38.5 TSL/SX's on my CJ-7 with 4" springs, Spring Over and Shackle reveral decided to eat the fenders and inner fender wells even after a little sawsall work.

Note the fender work.

Solution: Body lift? Nope just redesigned the springs and added 2 leaves from another set of 4" springs..

I cut the spring eyes off of the old springs and used the top leaf off along with the very bottom short leaf.

This resulted in 2" more lift and no loss of flex to my suprise, now I can locate my center pinion snubber in the middle of the axle and still get a full 4" of compression at the center of the axle which means no more driveshaft/Oil Pan clearance issues. And having only one bumpstop in the middle I will get GREAT flex on either side..

Sorry had to share this I am just so tickled...

Badass. I've got a bent spring in my rear left, so I'm gonna be pulling that off soon. Thinking about add-a-leafing the rear to make my CJ level.

Don;t you think that like all springs those will wear and start rubbing as time passes??? Just something to think about, A good set of bumpstops on each corner is the only real solution.

I agree 100%.... These springs will give me a little more altitude to start with so my bumpstops won't limit my compression. I am planning on 3 bumpstops on the front, call me crazy. One on each side and one in the middle, the one in the middle will sit much lower than the ones on the side so when I hit a bump and the whole front end compresses I can stop it before the driveshaft gets intimate with the oil pan. And the bumpstops on each end being higher I will still be able to stuff the tire nicely into the wheel well.

Opinions on this setup would be greatly appreciated, I am in the design stage at the moment and haven't built are bought any parts yet.

Thanks

SOunds alot like what I'm gonna have to do, for some reason toyotas werent designed around the chevy 4.3. I'm hoping I can get away without the center bumpstop I'm going to run longer outside ones and hope the extra width of the axle I'm putting in will still give good flex. I'm going to be running 37" boggers with only about 5" of lift though (compared to you its pretty close actually, spring over on 2" YJ springs and longer shackles) so i really need long bumpstops. I also plan to have metal Tubing around the rubber bumpstop to insure that if I jump it the suspension absolutly won't overcompress, Just gonna run those big ass red poly bump stops and find a peice of rectangular tube that will fit over the outside of it and mount the bumpstop and weld the tube to the frame.
