well the wife is getting me a jd2 bender for christmas so i am already thinking buggy! i currently have a lengthened cj5 and it pretty much has the drivetrain i plan to use. vortec350, 4L80E, d300 (soon to be an atlas i hope), and 62" wide d60 & 14bolt with 4.56's and detroits. oh yeah and 38.5 sx's. anyway i plan to use this as my base and build a buggy around it. i want to go 1/4 eliptic in the rear and just soa in the front with a wheelbase of 100-105". i know, i know, i want coilovers too but they are too much $$$. my wife just had a kid so i plan to build it with one seat in the rear. i also want to have room for spares and tools too. question 1 : what to do about a fuel tank. with a seat in the rear and the rearend slip way back where to mount the fuel tank? question 2: jeep or sami? i plan to run the front part of the tub (pedals, steering column, dash already mounted here so it make it easier to keep) hood, and grill from either my jeep or a samurai. i really like the jeep idea for looks but i can get a sami body cheap and i really like the narrower width. so which to use? any other ideas welcome. the plan is to keep it as light as posible and to keep the center of gravety low.

man i all most stopped by your house last night on the way home from the inlaws, glade i didin't. we would have been shooting ideas back and forth all night. i will get with you later and do some serious beer drinking, no i mean brainstorming. mike
I considered the same thing, but the weather here in the east is just not favorable to using something like that year round.
My compromise? I am will cut the back wall out of my Toy and build all tube for the rear section (I need additinal seating as well) and run a permanent bikini over the rear section, and eventually have a soft top made for the rear section.
But hey - if a tube rig is what you want, go for it :)

look at the calroks pictures, look at the white sammy and the orange sammy, they are both totally bad ass and work awsome. I would think about a small bench seat in the back instead of a single bucket, I just think it would be more comfortable and give the kid a choice to so sit on whichever side to see the action.
