It was a blast :flipoff2:

You pussies ... it wasn't bad camping at all after the sun went down. Well at least after midnight when I went to bed both nights. Heck both nights I woke up sometime in the early AM chilled and had to cover up :flipoff2: I think you guys sleepin in closed tents were the problem. Sleep outside with just a mosquito net over you. It was wonderful, plus you get to look at the stars as you go to sleep (it's normal for them to be spinning around, right?)

Maybe next year Doug K will have his junk fixed??

I did not see any response on the "Planning Stage" of the next TPP. First, we need to establish the weekend we want, schedule the slot with Randy et al. Then begin the process. What dates would best serve the group?

There is a hell of a lot of room for debate in this issue.

However, on the original note, as posted on the lesser circulated BB, I think Texas and Oklahoma can support two events on the same weekend. I had rather wheel Katemcy over Clayton any day. Hopefully in a year, we can get the Katemcy camping better established. We will let the idea bounce off some heads for a little while and go forward from there. How much chit can be broken in three full days of wheeling at Katemcy? Let's find out!

Do not let Cowtown or FWD guys tell us that we cannot have this on Memorial Day. We may decide ourselves not to have it that weekend but we should not let others make a decision for us on the basis that it will hurt attendance at their over priced trail ride.

This is only my opinion, but it needs to be said. Some people in FWD think they should be the final authority on wheeling activity in TX and Oklahoma.

I say fawk 'em

I will not be in Clayton Memorial Day even if the events are not on the same weekend. I really think the wheelin has gone down hill there and I do not intend to go back. I personally think there will be a good turnout in Katemcy with FWD in Clayton. I am concerned with sponsors being split, but we can start wotking on committments now and get that out of the way. I know some of the sponsors do not support the Clayton event, so there is a starting point. I do not think we have to decide on the date immediately, so let's let the fire catch and see what all burns and how many rats run out from underneath the brush.

I don't think having two events on the same weekend will hurt anything. I know we can get 75 rigs to show up, and a 3 day weekend will kick ass. As for sponsors lets make sure this past years sponsors know their advertising worked! Anyone need some wheels, call up Daniel, need a lo0cker buy Detroit, need a shirt call Mrs Camo, and when you call up these people tell them you decided to go with them because of TPP.

As for FWD getting the Kruse's to close that weekend down, I think our little group should have decent pulling power as well. Hell Doug and I are practiacly rock stars out there!

This is what Shain had to say on Cowtown.

I hate to schedule something on top of someone else's event. FWD-FWD Memorial Day has been a long time tradition and FWDers have been faithful supporters of Katemcy (Mike Green, Russ & Christy Baer, JoJo, Steve Turney, Jason Helms and the like). I dont want to piss off a club, except JNT ...(settle down JNTers, just teasing)... or group of folks and cut into FWD's biggest annual event and fundraiser. We try hard not to schedule on top of other events like Memorial Day in Clayton, the YO Jamboree, Trees ranch and even the Prorock and U Roc events with our NARRCA schedule to the extent possible. Inevitably, scheduling on top of another event pulls wheelers from one event or the other. If Memorial Day was our annual event first, I'd say screw 'em to anyone else and hold our event then. But, it wans't ours first and I just dont think its cool to come in and schedule on top of someone else's event.

Also, Marshall and Christy bring up a good point. Its not fair to the sponsors. You personally may not give a damn about a raffle, but others do and sponsors are left in the predicament of either picking one event over the other and possibly alienating customers/potential customers , or shelling out money/goods for both. Having been hit up several times a year for donations to this or that, I can say it ain't fun to spend the money, especially double the money at one time.

I agree that a 3 day weekend makes for a lot more fun and more time playing. If you can't find a 3 day holiday weekend that works, pick a weekend and take a day off work...you deserve a day off work dont ya? If not burn a sick day. We'll open up for wheeling on Friday or Monday or whatever, just tell us when you what to try to do it.

Well, the fire is burnin, and the rats are a scatterin. I am confident we can have 75 rigs, maybe more. We will really need to have prepay to make sure the Kruses do not get shafted like with JNT and also like FWD did to Gerald @ Deleon. I'm for getting organized now and moving on with plans/details. I will speak with Bryan tonight and inform he has a lot of work to do.

Ok Folks,

Thanks Edwin,
As noted at previous events, you are always ready/willing to keep the group moving with your expertise (great welder) and your sponsorship is fantastic. Glad to have you onboard.

Think I want to make sure doesn't happen is that FWD in Mason run gets too organized. Thats why I had more fun this past w/e than any other out at the ranch, we basically ran what we felt like running when we felt like running it. Sure we got lost at times but screw that it was 1/2 the fun

We do not need to give the TPP to FWD.

06-27-2003, 09:25 AM
I'd hate to see TPP start being run by the forums at Cow Town jeeps. I undertand not wanting to directly compete with another event, but we're not. This is TPP. This is supposed to be a get together of Texas wheelers who frequent this and other boards. I don't ever seee fwd-fwd discussions regarding Clayton on here nor on our board. I don't know many of the people going to Clayton, I know most of the people on here who want to go to mason. We're comparing apples and oranges here. This is a closed event, Katemcy rocks isn't directly competing with Clayton because we're not advertising for any joe shmo with a rig to come on out that weekend. Its TPP!

I mean are all events within a 10hour drive of Clayton being canceled that weekend? Is everythign being canceled in Arkansas as well?

Joe_W
06-27-2003, 09:28 AM
Hell I never thought of it as FWD taking over TPP, actually I view it as FWD doing whatever is needed to make sure TPP won't compete with them (nervous much??).

If FWD Memorial Day is at Kruse's then TPP is just another weekend.

Someone should start a website (Hal) where people can show interest in a TPP event on Memorial Day at Kruse (that is run by the TPP crowd just like this year).

I'm so used to taking those five days for clayton, so why stop the tradition? Let's aim for a FIVER!

I just spoke with Bryan in the past hour. Needless to say, he was surprised by the "Goings On" and will be stepping in to help with organization, or be the organizer and I will help him. Whichever, the way, I do not think Sponsors should have to register, and should have all priviledges of the registered. I was not involved untill the later developements of the TPP, so I do not know how the registrations went. As soon as I hear from the Kruses and the days are secured, we should start with the registrations.

Well I'll be there, but I do like to support fwd .... I agree Clayton isn't what is used to be, but it is still fun. I think fwd has done more than 98% of the clubs out there on things like land use to try and keep areas available for all of us to use, so I don't mind supporting them.

The reality is Katemcy really cant handle the volume that fwd gets in Clayton, and I don't think they would want to either. Plus Katemcy really doesn't have a lot of the mild/moderate kind of trails. Why does this need to turn into an either or... I personally would like to go to both events. To an extent they won't pull that much from each other, but there are several fwd pbb members from Dallas with built rigs that I"m sure would love to do both events.

Oh and doug when did you graduate from goatfawking to horsefawking?? Remember those goats we saw gittin it on the way to dinner Fri PM.... NOW that was a good omen!

I just got off the phone with the Katemcy owner and they are discussing how to handle the weekend. Tha calendar is open and we should not have any problem with booking that weekend. I agree with everyone, the "Texas Pirate Party 2nd Memorial" should be on Memorial Day.
My thoughts:
Goal of 100 Rigs
Lots of BBQ
Lots of Beer
Lots of Fun
Lots of Wheelin
Return home safely

Will start the details of sign up after committments are in place. I am sure at some point point, they will need up front gaurantee (Money) to insure they are not shafted like in the past. I fully aggree with this and we will work as a group to satisfy everyone's needs.

Sam's Novice Run hosted by Sam's Offroad out of Tulsa Oklahoma, held every year in Clayton during the last week of September. It costs a can of food put into the food drive and you about 10 bucks for the raffle and meal. Not a bad deal. We've went for the last few years during that weekend but have never actually participated in the run because we always waited too long to sign up.

Not trying to be an asshat or anything, but uh... I paid a nominal fee for some BBQ and a shirt, and I got neither. Now, I know I didnt go, and that the shirts got fawked, But Uhh... are there any shirts left over from either batch that I could have?? Pllleeeeeeeeeeeease?

I will get with Bryan upon his return from LA (weekend of 4th) and send shirts out. It may be possible to order individuals from the manufacturer if needed, I do not know. I will try to get Necy's out this week. No Flames Needed, it delays the process. Still have not heard back from Katemcy regarding details of Memorial Weekend 2004.

I have been asked by an individual from another bb to clear the air. It seems that I may have been a little harsh on FWD with some of my statements by inferring that they were trying to control what weekend the TPP was held on. I have been told that I was mistaken in my assumptions and I was wrong in instigating a feud between pbb members and fwd members on cowtown bbs. It seems that most of the anti-TPP on memorial day weekend stemmed from people that want to attend TPP and must attend FWD events. I can understand their position. That is the reason I don't join clubs where the group makes decisions for the individual.

But it looks like we got us a party on Memorial Day Weekend.

From what I read through there TPP post, at first they were trying to say keep the TPP in June, then turned around and said hey we should move a major FWD-FWD event to Memorial day. Then when they were called on it they started saying that they were not trying to control the TPP or when it was.

FWD-FWD has always had a major event on Memorial day...... I don't believe that it was stated anywhere (please correct if I am wrong) that FWD is, was, going to move an event calendar wise. It was however, brought up to move the event's location.

The main problem with two events the same weekend in places that most of us frequent is that the FWD event is also the SWFWDA quarterly meeting. It is hard enough for SWFWDA to get a quarum to the meetings as it is now.

You are right I worded that incorrectly, someone stated that the FWD Mem. Day event should be moved to Katemcy. This was said at the same time the new TPP date was being discussed

As usual, Hayraker has hit the Bullseye!!!
As posted on the other TPP Thread under General 4X4 Discussion, I think there is room for the "Texas Pirate Party 2nd Memorial" and also the "Texas Pirate Party Shootout" in the same season. Let's think about having the TPP on Memorial Day Weekend as discussed, and also a second event on the same weekend as we had the TPP this past year. I really think we can fill two weekends with funfilled entertainment from the TPP. Let me know your thoughts.

Just an update on the DVD. I've been working my ASS off on this since I got back from TPP.

I'm hoping to bring the DVD in at over an hour, but I may be limited to 30-40 minutes. I like to edit like I like my women, quick and tight, so as to hold the viewers attention. Unfortunatly this doesn't lend itself well to hour long videos. I've edited together about 16 minutes of footage with music. Unfortunatly I don't have the rights to the song I made that quick cut to last week or I'd have almost 20minutes of edited footage.

BUT I've gotten the rights to 5 different bands, with 5 different styles, so I should have plenty of music. I've also received tons of extra footage to go along with all the footage I shot. I have nearly 10 hours worth, but if anyone has more I'd love to get it. I can never have too much footage. My goal is to get a shot of everyone's rig in the DVD at least once. BUT some people I have a lack of footage for, especially the IRBSTM crew. I'd also like more video of BSing around camp or swimming in the river. So if anyone has video they would be willing to let me use PM me, and we'll work something out.

Anyway once I get the video finished I need to get it made. I talked with someone at TPP who worked at a DVD production company, but being the dumbass I am, I lost his card. So if any of you work at or know someone who works at a company where I can get the DVDs burned let me know. I originally planned to burn them all myself, but I hope that by going through a company I can save myself time, and I can save everyone money since they get the actual DVDs much cheaper than I can get them. I'm try to get the price of the DVD as cheap as possible especially for those that attended TPP.

Feel free to PM me if you have any ideas regarding the DVD. This is my first venture into this sort of thing, so I'm open to opinions or helpful suggestions!

Well the Smokey and the Bandit theme runed into a huge bitch. Just FYI... I have yet to talk to anyone I'm supposed to talk to, I just get transfered around.

Also Blake are you sure thats the name of the song. The reason I ask is because Jerry Reed's people know Texas Bound and Flying, but Universal who everyone says owns the rights doesn't have that song. They do own a song called Bandit Theme though.

As for this Peso Music who also owns part of the song I can't even get a number for them, and searches on the Internet have turned up nothing.

Jerry Reed wrote hte music to the song. The Texas Bound and Flyn in the theme to Smokey the Bandit II. Smokey the Bandit I is called East Bound and Down, that is also done by Jerry Reed.

Good Ted Nugent songs are Cat Scatch Fever, Stranglehold (maybe too slow for wheeling),

How bout:
Steppenwolf - Magic Carpet Ride
Thin Lizzy - Cowboy Song
AC/DC - Thunderstruck
Gourds - Gin and Juice
Davin James - Rolling Dice

THat's what I'd like, but I think the consensus of all the people who would view it would like to see some harder stuff. But I mean, why do we wanna copy all teh Cali guys and put punk rawk in our video :flipoff2:

I also think that if you use some of the Texas guys that it would be easier to get the rights, and possibly cheaper.... here are some good songs that would be fast/hard enough for the wheeling

Davin James - Rolling Dice (would be really good)
Blue Edmondson - Travelin Man
Cory Morrow - The Preacher
Cory Morrow - Light on the Stage
David Allen Coe - Willie, Waylon and Me (would be really good)
Dub Miller - Miles and Memories
Jason Boland - Ponies (would be really good)
Jerry Jeff Walker - What I Like About Texas
Pat Green - Here We Go (would be really good)
Reckless Kelly - Wild Western Windblown Band
Roger Creager - Love

BTW I already have 1 countryish song from a local (to dallas) singer. I'm trying to get more.

John Price - evaporation (http://server1.sxsw.com/audio/sxsw03/mp3hi/John_Price-evaporation.mp3)

The rest of the music is from two local punk bands, and one song thats more Jimmy Hendrixish with heavy guitarre solos.

One of the problems with throwing in country songs is unless the are pretty upbeat they tend to bring the pace of the video to a screeching halt. I realize we are in Texas though, so I'll see what I can do. AND I've put in a fomal request for both Smokey and the Bandit themes, so we'll see how far I actually get. I've never been run around so much in my life

Nope, it's true my good man. I'm gettin it fixed right this time. My mechanic is a cool fawker too. I've known him all my life and he cuts me some good deals. Biggest part of his business is setting up dirt track cars and building engines and transmissions for 'em. I would have taken it to him sooner but he moved and started another shop and I didn't track him down until I went to the races a couple weeks ago.

He has quit racing himself, and seemed very interested in partnering in building a comp rig after seeing my junk and showing him some pictures of tube buggys :D

Oh yea, he told me he would do some work for free on my rig if I helped him some and left my rig at his shop so he could park it out front during business hours:D

This has been my best week in a long time. I could just crap my pants:flipoff2:

edit: btw Alan, if I win the 53's in the tire drawing you can consider them yours cuz I got to see that:D
