If you arn't having A LOT of clearance problems, get the gears first. Low gearing and less traction is better than bad gearing and good traction. Traction is useless with you don't have the power to turn the rubber :D

Read the FAQ at the begining of this Section.

Search, like it was sugested.

When you buy new gears (and you WILL, not 'IF'), dont forget to get better rubber mounts and beef the T-case arm or get a replacement mounting system like the ones sold by our wonderfull vendors out there :D

Oh yea.....one more thing Zukikid......here's that 'Welcoming Party'

:flipoff2: :flipoff2: WELCOME :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

Welcoming Party indeed

6:1...that is the way to go. it will totally fix your loss of power problem with those massive 32's. DOOOO EEETTT!

do the gears first..i went the other way and it sucked.

i would stick with either 4.16's or 4.89's if you want to stay with stock axles. or you could save yourself a lot of aggrevation and just by toy axles now.

just my .02...

Jon :D

Go 6:1's.
You won't regret it 3 months later (like I did when I went 4:1).
Stock t-case gears, and 31's make you a hazzard to yourself and good footage for everyone else on the trail.

Go with the gears, the may save you life, limb and sheetmetal.

Search for "FAQ"
check on stock axles, this has been covered in there.

Welcome newbie:flipoff2:

Why did you regret getting the 4:1's?? I've read many times here that 6:1's and anything less than 33" is a 5+k highway rpm....way too much for the lil1.3 to take for too long IMO.

Are you kidding? It's half motorcycle engine - it loves revs. Hell, do the math on the piston speeds and the thing (in theory) should be able to sit at 8k all day long.

One caveat: MAINTENANCE!

Mine must be on the downhill side of the hill then, anything over 5.5 and she starts to get pretty rough...

Good comp in all cyls, no smoke but she starts floating and really looses power....could be the 1' of 2.5" straight pipe leading into the turbo II muffler and downturn tho...(rubbed the stock exhaust off on a submerged stump)

Would welding a baffle (closing half the downturn off) create a better backpressure situation?

Put in a better cam/springs is what I'd look at...if you actually need the high end.

Having the high end would be nice since 5th is pretty useless in a headwind....damn "monster 29's".....

I might just go wit springs for now as the budget won't allow for the whole thing. (or maybe it's actually time to adjust the rockers...)

thx for the advice bub.

I regret it, because now I’ve “outgrown” my 31’s, and 4:1 in rocks requires lots of clutching even with 31's. With 6:1 just put it in first and go.

On steep hills that require wheel speed, I can’t get enough out of first gear low range and it won’t pull the hill in second gear low range. I end up red lining it to get it to spin fast enough to clean the tires. Need more gear options off road.

Thank you...that's what I was lookin for. We got some rocks around here but with my level of expendable cash real rock crawlin aint in the near future. But 32/33's are and gearing to run 'em is a must.

Thx again.
