So I have a leaky evap canister in my '85 CJ. The purge valve is essentially stuck open which makes for a large vacuum leak all the time. Upon some searching here and calls into several Jeep dealerships, I found that they have two evap canisters that may work. As my 258 is fuel injected and no longer requires the vent bowl port on the original canister, I am contemplating using a replacement for an EFI equipped YJ. Its cheaper ($44 versus $100) and I don't have to worry about plugging the carb bowl port. Question is: are the canisters identical in all other respects? For example, does the YJ version have the vacuum signal, purge and tank ports? I am assuming the electronic purge valve didn’t come until OBDII and that they are all roughly the same diameter.
Oh, and I am not going to scrounge one in a junkyard to save $44 dollars.
