Has anyone ever broken a knuckle from side pressure on the tire? Like being on a rock and falling off to something hard?

I tried to find situations where people broke a scout D44 knuckle from shock loads, but couldn't find one.

EDIT: I don't care about people who jump and brake them. The top speed is 30MPH.

I'll be driving an assembley that places the effective tire diameter at close to 44", but before I get too far into the project, I'm hoping to learn from the experience you guys have...

I have not seen or heard of exactly what you are asking, Scout D44. but... I have seen/heard people break Chevy D44 steering knuckles with as little as 35" tires. Thus it is possible and does happen. I am sure it has happend with Scout D44 knuckles under regular wheeling conditions with similar sized tires...

But my bigger question is how are you going to keep the rest of the axle together if your running 44" tires on a D44 parts????

I didn't break the knuckle, but I did tweak the housing a bit and wasted the spindle and the wheel hub. I wasn't planning to jump it, just didn't see the railroad tracks coming toward me in time . . .

I've heard of Justin Ritch (on the BB) busting a knuckle... seen it in trail carnage pictures (usually associated with blow ball joints).

Can happen, does happen, but I wouldn't say the most common failure point of a D44....

I would think shafts and U-joints and ball joints would your biggest concern.....

High-steer can/does agravate the issue..

From his stories I think Justin could break an anvil with a toothpick putting himself in the hosptial in the process

But, if I remember correctly, we also can't forget that he was running 36" tires with a welded on high steer arm.... I think that might have a little something to do with it....
