: NWRCA and scoring.... WTF!?!?!?

Today, at lunch, the mailman brought the monthly newsletter of the Pacific Northwest Four Wheel Drive Association (PNWFWDA) and in it is featured the RCC that was held last month in Vantage, WA.. Seeing as how I was there I had a little more interest than normal in what kind of dribble they were printing. All was cool until I read about the scoring...

and I quote...

"The time had finally come and just before the scores were announced we were notified that the rules had been changed and the point system used to calculate the scores would be different then what the participants were told prior to the start of the event. What the organizers did was disregard the points that someone accumulated for timing out on a course. What that meant was if you got on a course and went three feet and could not proceed any further you would get a better score then the rig that completed the course and ran over a couple flags."

it then goes on to compare the NWRCA to the WWF, saying that it was an entertainment event and not a competition

WTF?!?!?! did everybody that just "competed" in the event get duped into thinking that it was a legit competition when in reality it was a professional wrestling match? with the winner PREDETERMINED???

Hmmm. Serious accusations. I highly doubt it was rigged or predetermined though. Tom@nwrca?

to be honest i have a feeling it was...

if what is said was true i would have been in 4th place, no question about it, Hooder and i kept our own scorecard of what we counted for the obstacles and also the scores the judges gave us for them... and if what is said is true we'd be dead in 4th place.... not 10th

I'm not saying that there might not have been some lame scoring, and I'm definitely not defending NWRCA, but the guy who got first place in Extreme, Tom LeBlanc, is a good friend of mine. I guarantee he would have nothing to do with any shady scoring business. But I absolutely agree that people shouldn't be scored for their entertainment contribution, that's stupid. It should be scored just like any other comp, ie ARCA, CalRocs, Uroc....

So Dave, are you saying that if you subtracted the points you got for timing out you would have been in 4th? Are you accounting for the other competitors time out points too?

It would be great if the NWRCA people would itemize peoples scores on their website rather than just totalling them. Then it would be easier to sort through the confusion.

I wasn't there, nor have I read the article, so I can't make any claim as to the validity of this accusation.

What I CAN say is this, even a BAD rule that everyone is aware of is better than saying you'll do one thing & then doing something else.

Again, not to say what happened here, just making a general statement about competitions overall.

Dave, wow that does suck. Tex I totally agree. Rules should be clearly defined.

I gotta say after last weekend, I almost feel the same way. The 3 minute course was like rock racing!

When Schaffer came down into the course and never stopped moving back up once and timed out before the second gate I really noticed it.

Don't get me wrong, I loved watching Chris Durham staple his foot to the floor and get it done but was no technical skill involved in that (well very little skill atleast)

Maybe there should be 2 different timed races? One for Tech driving and one for flat out getting it??
