: Need help adjusting valves on 258

I finally got the rebuilt 258 running and it has a hateful vacuum leak. Can't seem to isolate it one the outside so we are thinking that one of the intake valves may not be closing all of the way.

When I put the rockers on I just set them on the push rod and valve and then tightened the bolt to the spec'd torque setting. I've been told that this isn't the right way to do it.

Anybody have suggestions on correctly adjusting the rockers so that all of the valves are closing properly.

The chiltons and haynes manual are woefully void of any good information for this part of the rebuild. If someone could scan and post the FSM with the valve adjustment section that would be most appreciated.

thanks,

The 258 uses hydraulic lifters. There is no valve adjustment on them.
