not really looking to get one, just never hear anything about them on here and wondering if there is a reason for it.

I looked at a winch comparison a while back, and it seemed like apples to apples, the Superwinch winches were a bit slower, and not a whole helluvalot cheaper. I don't have any first-hand experience with them though.

I have a <a href="http://www.superwinch.com/x9.htm">Superwinch X9</a> on my Toyota (<a href="http://www.people.memphis.edu/~ecmills/toy_front.jpg">See?</a>) and I love it.

For perspective, I had an old Warn 5687 (oldie version of the 8274) before this on my CJ - but couldn't fit it on the Yota because they don't have the foot of frame sticking out the front that the jeeps do. So I got the X9 'cause I got a rocking good deal on it from the owner of <a href="http://www.uswinch.com">US Winch</a>.

Basically what I'm saying is that I'm not some brand loyal superwinch nut. I loved that old warn, but now I gotta sell it 'cause it wouldn't fit. :(

Anyway, I was hesitant to buy the superwinch at first, becuase no one ever talks about them. At least with ramsey's they're mentioned fairly often (althoug usually it's some dumb "my uncle's cousin had one and it sucked" crap) but no one in the US mentions superwinch. I've used mine on some good pulls (for example - I stalled it pulling a dually cehvy diesel out using a snatch block) on my truck, my friends jeeps, and so on.

I think it's just an unquestioned thing in the US that you buy Warn. Most people don't know this, but Superwinch is the most popular winch brand in the world... Warns sales kick their butt in the US , but only in the U.S... if you look at a pic in australia or britain of a land rover or something, you usually see a superwinch in the bullbar.

Anyway, back to my own opinion: It's a good winch. It's not as fast as my old 8274 (but what is?:)) but it's not as slow as, say, an M800 or something either. A friend has the new HS9500i, and it's noticably slower than that. Interestingly enough, it seems to pull as hard as my other buddies old worm-drive 10K ramsey, which seems to hole true the the way Superwinch rates it's winches.

See, warn & ramsey give you the STALL speed (an 8k winch STOPS at 8K) but superwinch give you the rated line pull (what they desigend it to PULL (mines a 9K, and superwinch states the stall as 11,900 lbs.) and I KNOW my winch takes more to stall than that HS9500 my bud has... so that seems to hold true.

Although in my opinion, all winch manufacturers rate their winches the way men measure their dongs... very optimistically.

I also have an X9 and love it...I have used it extensively without a problem EVER, from winching rolled vehicles, down cliffs, over trees & rocks you name it & its done it. These are one of the best winches out there. Line speed means nothing to me..big deal.. for and unloaded cable its fast enough. I also carry and extra 100' cable to add on when I need that extra lenght...not needed to often though. No one cares what winch you got when they need help!!
