I have tried the usual suspect (Summit) and a few race shops some of my wheel-to-wheel racing friends fequent, but i can't find the "thick foam" style padding.

I did a search and a few people suggested pipe insulation. I working in regrigeration before, and I don't want that junk protecting my head. Or is it something else?

Anyway, if someone has a lead on 2" roll bar padding, or a pic of the "pipe" style stuff so i can take a look at its thickness, etc. that would be great.

if it come in glitter, even better:flipoff2:

doesn't Home Depot have some fairly large pipe insulating foam which would serve the same purpose?

I use the standard offset roll bar padding on my 2" cage. The fit is tight and the pad does not cover all the way around, but the important thick part is facing toward my nogg'n. I got it at Morgan's Machine Shop in Concord. Any good speed shop should have it, is Vic Hubbards still around?

ditto what he said...on a couple of my 2" spreaders I used the 1.5" FOAM as you call it. And the rest of my spreaders are 1.5".

It just leaves more exposure on the backside, but protects YOU all the same.

Don't see why you wouldnt want the stuff in the link...it just looks different, with the vinyl coating, same FOAM I think, and if its facing what you don't want to hit a metal roll bar...its going to suit the purpose.

FWIW all the faom pipe insulation I've seen is not as durable as ROLL BAR PADDING. It will chunk, and scratch and get damaged easier from my experience.
Go hit your head against some pipes with it on them, and then find a cage with ROLL BAR PADIING on it and compare.

The hookup for regular rollbar foam/padding is that place that recycles and sells used Nascar stuff out of NC. I just got 24' (in 3' lengths) delivered to my door for $20. If somebody needs a link I can look it up ... they advertise in all the Hot Rod mags

Here's a link to some roll bar padding that works on 1.5" - 2" roll bar

I haven't personally used it but should do what you want.

BTDT, I've tested both with my head. Let's put it this way, the pipe insulation does a good job when your entering and exiting the rig and smack you head. It's soft pliable and does a good job of cushioning a 5 mph blow. The roll bar padding is not as cushy, when you hit your head it kinda jars your head at slow speeds. It's the high speed impact I'm worried about.

I think it was for 1.5-1.75", I just looked on their web site, but they don't have it listed. I bought it off their ebay auction as a buy it now. They don't have any up for auction right now, but I got the impression when I talked to them on the phone that it was a std item. Here's the link to the auction (http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&category=38634&item=2411762076)

Give them a call toll free at 1-877-6MUSCLE and see if they will give you the same deal. $20 for 24' of high density, offset center colored rollbar pad is a screamin deal...better than half off the best other place I could find. Heck they even paid the shipping...I should have gotten at least another 12'.

Here is their main website: http://www.musclemotorparts.com/ ... actually under their monthly specials page it mentions the rollbar padding at 3 for $10 and says mention the ad...but I got 4 for $10 so try mentioning the ebay auction :D
