I called the local 4x4 Shop today to see about getting some full-width axles installed. Asked about having them build the outboard perches and doing a shackle reversal at the same time. The rear end isn't a problem I can put that in myself.
I was thinking of using a Chevy D44 front w/ Ford D44 outers, and a 9" rear. He told me I shouldn't use the 9" cuz the yoke is 2" lower. He suggested finding a Dana 44 rear out of a Isuzu Rodeo because it has disk brakes, and a 4.30 gear, with a D44 out of a wagoneer I THINK. Not sure what he told me to use on the front. He says I'll need to box the frame at the same time because these axles will tear the shit out of the frame. Makes sense I believe him I just wanted to let you guys know about the Rodeo rear end and find out what front end I should use. He is getting back with me Friday when the manager gets back from California. Some rockcrawling competition he attended. He is gonna price me for the front perches, steering drag link, boxing the WHOLE frame. How much do you guys think this is worth?:roxy:

I am building the same front end, chevy case with ford outers (but im throwing in 5.38s) I am also going to cut it down to 60" to match the dana 44 rear I pulled out of a scout II. If you need the offset diff in the rear go for the waggy rear. I couldent tell you a thing about the rodeo axles, but you can throw discs on the waggy rear 44 for about $300 from TSM. Not sure if this answers any of your questions. :usa:

The rodeo/honda passport (yes, you would be swapping honda parts onto your jeep) is abotu 60" wide WMS to WMS. It has disc brakes with mini-drums inside the discs and it's a decent swap into a YJ. The waggoneer axles are either 60" wide (narrow track) or 63" wide (wide track). Both are a decent swap for a YJ. I THINK, that the wide track ones are high steer. Not sure.

Neither of these are "full width." Full width is usually like 65+" So, I think whoever gave you your info is telling you a normal width swap. IMHO, the wide track waggy axles are the way to go. You get a little more width and bigger brakes (that still hook up to your YJ brakes).

I don't know the years for any of this stuff, but if you Search it, there are more than enough posts arlready posted to find what you need.

the guy told me that the Rodeo rear ends are what they use. I was gonna use the Ford outers because I wanted the Ford 5x5.5 lug pattern all around. I guess the Isuzu and Chevy lug pattern is the same.
I think the price is gonna be real high when it comes to boxing that frame. Jeez

You wont regret having the frame boxed up good, bent frames tend to make you:mad3: I know this from experience:usa:

yes I think they are. I think it is Chris Durham he needs to talk with to get my prices. I hope this doesn't get TOO spendy it kinda makes the $1500 JEEP price tag look a little high lol.
Hopefully I can just trailer it down to Foothills 4x4 and drop it off.

Does anyone know the width of a '74 CJ D30 front and D44 rear? I am trying to get an idea of how wide I am gonna go. Thanks

Forrest,

I could be wrong, but I believe that the "narrow trac" CJ axles (CJ, not Waggy) are about 54" WMS to WMS.

The wide trac CJ axles (82-86) are about 58" inches, and waggy's are in the 60-62" range.

Of course, I could just be pulling these out of my ars. :flipoff2: :D
