: Photo-choppin' (let's see 'em!!!)
Serious One 05-08-2003, 10:40 AM Alright, since Q and I were discussing it I thought it deserved it's own thread.
I KNOW you guys have been playing with Photoshop making your dream buggies come alive, so let's see them (I want to see those non Land Rovers in here too LR-lurkers!). :flipoff2:
Here's what I started with in the construction of the crewcab.
Serious One 05-08-2003, 10:42 AM Then to get the proportions right for the truck cab and the rear box I placed a 12 inch ruler on the rear tire and placed some of the body on (back roof, top roof, front passenger door)
Serious One 05-08-2003, 10:44 AM Then with the 12 inch ruler to give me some scale I put in a grid based on that 12 inch ruler and went to town.
The look is pretty 'blocky', no shading, and the roof rack was placed to kind of give an idea of how one would look up there.
Serious One 05-08-2003, 10:51 AM now I have this:
I know I know, I need to get a better side view (too lazy to go outside and shoot one right now. The light is just all wrong).
Serious One 05-08-2003, 10:59 AM just to compare...
DieLucas! 05-08-2003, 11:01 AM Oh yeah....Paint rules!
Serious One 05-08-2003, 11:04 AM So...let me get this straight...
DieLucas' idea of a dream vehicle is one where he can pick up something nice and cold to suck in his mouth while reading Hustler magazine? All this for under 5 bucks? Now that IS a dream!
GollyGwagen 05-08-2003, 11:04 AM Here is the dove-tail G I just did. Not sure if I'll ever do it for real, but you never know!

And the pimp-G!

Yeah...you're right. I don't even think Hustler is THAT cheap.
BTW, the bird was intended for you :flipoff2:
Serious One 05-08-2003, 11:10 AM here ya go.:flipoff2:
madcowdungbeetle 05-08-2003, 11:57 AM Here's my truck.....

Serious One 05-08-2003, 12:04 PM you must have some custom portal axles under there too, look at how much higher the radius arm is above the center line of the axle!
I was thinking it looks pretty cool with those tires on it.
Anyone else? Bueller? Bueller?

Thought so. Actually you could almost get away with it saying you had the radius arms remounted to go on TOP of the axle rather than underneath it. Castor correction AND added articulation.
Hmmmm....now that I think about it, it doesn't sound that stupid.....or does it????:flipoff2:
madcowdungbeetle 05-08-2003, 12:15 PM That's an interesting idea... in theory anyways!

When I say it, it sounds stupid.
When you say it, it sounds like it just might work.
GollyGwagen 05-08-2003, 12:34 PM Having seen a lot of custom suspensions, I know that putting the radius arms on top is done a lot (Mitsu arms) but it only really works with coil overs since the arms sit where the springs would go. So just make sure you say your've got coil-overs. :D
Ran_over 05-08-2003, 12:35 PM Matt at Rockware did just that with his Jeep buggy. Rover radius arms on top of the axle...
FWIW-
C.
TxD90 05-08-2003, 06:20 PM I haven't exactly done major body panel changes, so no need for photoshop planning. But I do mess w/ p-shop, as with this 6x6 chop I did.

:D This was a shot of my old Disco when the road ran out ( only one side of the road was washed out, but was hard to see ) We were cruising 30+ until I saw it ( which was to late ) I was inches from endo-ing ( look close at where the ARB bar hit the sand, and see the impression )
At any rate I photoshopped this eons ago to see what it would look as a D100 pickup, I almost did it ( shoulda, but sold the rig )..
It could use a tapered & bobbed butt and a full cage. and maybe have the cab be canvas as opposed to Al.
:flipoff2:
tbmcneill 05-09-2003, 06:59 PM i've always thought a D100 would be nice....
GollyGwagen 05-12-2003, 03:25 PM Just a real picture I'm afraid, but here is an example of the flipped Rover arms. This first buggy actually used LR arms as I remember.

Serious One 05-15-2003, 10:09 AM Ok, so I have this 72 inch ARB rack on one of the LWB RR's. I don't use the rack much on the RR, and was thinking of putting it on the CC.
Here's a 'chop to show you guys what it'd look like....
Serious One 05-15-2003, 10:36 AM Keeping in mind that I will have to modify the ARB rack, essentially create a hole in the center of the rack where the RedDot AC unit will be. I was thinking I could form a sort of halo out of 1/2 inch tubing, get it welded into the hole that would be cut, to finish it off and give the floor some ridgidity.
I'd have to have the thing sandblasted and re-powdercoated, so add that into the mix as well.
Now...consider that the ARB racks are really nice and for some unknown reason ARB has discontinued importing them into the states.
Could I...for example...have a custom rack made for what I could sell the ARB rack for? Haven't crunched any numbers, but the rack I would have made would look a lot like the SafetyDevices rack I saw on the G4110 Ambulance. Check it out.
Greg Davis 05-15-2003, 11:48 AM Mike, I think adding the rack would really clean up the roof of the CC. Kind of make the roof AC unit disappear. I'd go ahead and cut up the ARB unit. I think it would be easier than trying to fab something from scratch.
Besides, if you're like me, you sell the rack, spend the cash, and then never do the new rack 'cause you'll think it's too big of a project. By using the existing rack, you're almost done.:)
Serious One 05-16-2003, 10:38 AM damn, not a photoshop, but way cooler. Notice how the Ram fared compared to the H2. These are from a thread on this site:
http://forums.fark.com/cgi/fark/comments.pl?IDLink=524636
SeaRover 05-16-2003, 10:44 AM i wonder if they have a crumple zone built into them, more like a sedan? the greenhouse looks untouched.
fact is - with a head on collision, the less damge to the truck, the more damage there is to you!
Serious One 05-16-2003, 10:47 AM Yeah....maybe. But at least the Ram could drive away. :flipoff2:
SeaRover 05-16-2003, 10:52 AM tain't goin nowhere, that truck der. it be fubar
sachilles 05-16-2003, 10:54 AM I'm not thinking the ram could drive away.
What I find weird is that it is on a divided highway. Somebody must have jumped the median or something.

Yeah, that truck would have been cool. Instead I took the bed and made the cooking trailer. Would have been sweet though with a canvas tilt.
I'm not too dissapointed I didn't do it (the alternative's not that bad eh?), but it's one of those would-a-could-a-should-a things that didn't happen.
Oh well.
Oh yeah, and I know the Ram didn't drive away.
