OK first off I dont know crap about Ford trucks so .....................
Ive built soooo many chevy trucks but never a ford.
I have a friend at work thats got 2 older broncos, one is a 68 and the other a 74.The 68 has a 6 cyl with a standard tranny and the 74 has a 302 with an auto tranny. Is there any swappability between these engines and tranny's?ALos any trans transfer case ID's would be helpful.Thanks...........

The 6 cylinder can be converted to a v8 if you weld new motor mounts to the frame. They'll both have Dana 20 t-cases.

74 will have a Jshift Tcase, the 68 will have a Tshift... Tshift has lower gears but not enough to alert the press or anything... You will need to put new motor mounts to convert a 6banger to an 8..

If swapping the six out for a V8, the six cylinder trans and intermediate housing combo would put your motor into the fire wall and the front half of your oil pan on top of your front axle. The six cylinder trans has a lower (weaker?) first gear and, I believe, the intermediate housing is shorter, placing the motor farther back in the engine compartment. So, it's not just a matter of welding in V8 motor mounts (and V8 radiator mount brackets, BTW:eek: ) you'll have to do a little parts swapping but, you'll want to get rid of the three speed anyway, it's pretty useless for any real off roading!:D
