Anyone wanna come over and help???
I'm removing the 4.2 from the RRC in the sideyard. I'm looking for that extra special bit of wisdom that just might be floating around out there to offer a little help.
Here's what's been done:
both drivelines removed
crossmember removed
fuel injection removed
radiator removed
power steering removed
Here's what I thought I'd do:
Drain oil from engine and tranny
use chain around frame rails and under tranny to support it when I remove t-case (have floor jack to support tranny)
undo motor mounts
undo ground strap
get hoist, chain it up, pull it out (is it really all that simple???)
I've got a brand new box of latex gloves (MERV!), a lot of carb cleaner and some rags to clean up the gooiness that's sure to be around. I've also saved up a bunch of good ol' fashioned swear words to assist in the process. Wonder if I'll need metric or standard? Have an assortment of both.
depending on the level of messiness I might actually have pics.

removing the engine is easy and goes quite how you described. however replacing it is another story all together but i dont get the feeling that you are concerned with that immediately. just triple check that you have EVERYTHING disconnected before you lift it out- if not you will probably have to go around the motor looking for the one wire or hose thats still hooked up. sounds easy, but it can be a huuuuuuuuge PITA.
good luck w/ it:D

Mike:
If you're gonna pull the transfer case, pull the tranny as well (after the transfer case has been removed). This will make maneuvering much easier. Be aware that transfer case is hella heavy! But, without the transfer case, the tranny weighs very little and is easily maneuverable.
Peace,
Paul

Yeah, the plan was for Matthew at BCB to come over and help get all this stuff out of the truck, but he can't come to Vegas at all this weekend. I had originally planned to do it tomorrow, but I'm going to do it today instead.
DieLucas! come over earlier than this afternoon and I'll make it worth your while (I promise). Remember, I do have that new box of latex gloves. ;)
On a non-related note, but hardly worth starting a new thread over, where can I get new O2 sensors???

Hey mike, cant tell from your post, but you need to separate the tranny and motor on rovers. The tranny and such leave the truck from the bottom, and the motor the top. It would be nice if they were like old cars where the combo comes out as one. Give me a call if you get stuck, i would be glad to Curse at it for you.

yeah, I was planning on pulling them out together after getting the t-case off.
Schram's post got me thinking that if I could pull the tranny off, I would.
Now your post tells me I actually do need to pull the transmission apart from the engine? Ok, I'll believe you and Paul. DANG! I was hoping I could do the seperation after removal.
I'll call you when I get bored/stuck/tired of swearing.

What? Did you cut through another set of wires? :flipoff2:
I can't remember who has them, but somebody posts the source every now and then on D-Web...something like $85 each?
Is it Will Tillery who has them???

Mike:
That dry hot air must be doing something to your memory...
Cheap oxygen sensors-oxygensensors.com, but, you have to solder the connectors on.
DiscountRovers.com 502-8rovers ~$90/each, plug and play, tell them I sent you.
Peace,
Paul

Dude, get a life!:flipoff2: :flipoff2:
I haven't had anything worth saying, so I haven't said anything at all. Get the hint?
Can someone tell me how to get a nice shine on my door latch assemblies for my 109? They are soooo tarnished. I thought about using Brasso (c) metal polish, but (sigh) the can said not to use it on aluminum. I tried running them through the dishwasher while my wife was out last night, but they just didn't get that clean! I am at my wits end and could really use some help guys.
All in good humor Mike!

Oh Simon you're so mean! :)
Engine's out, I'm heading to Paso. No time for piccies, rush hour leaving Vegas will be bad.
So, for those of you who were looking for pics, youain't gonna see 'em 'till Monday.
Bummer eh? Like you guys even cared! :flipoff2:

Thanx Adam, but believe it or not, I have a Rangie in the shop where the gate itself (frame/glass) is in acceptable condition, but the latches are shot. I may end up needing yours though, let me see what I end up needing.
I spent way too long replacing a hinge (drill/tap, etc) and found to my chagrin that the latches were junk, just as they latched in the closed position:eek: ! I got it open, but now need to do something so the owner cann drive it without fear of CO poisoning.
Peace,
Paul

just tell him to drive fast and hold his breath!
I've driven a LONG way with the rear hatch open w/out any *noticable* effects on my health.

So I order my O2 sensors, get the conformation e-mail, and notice that they are being sent from Tehachapi, CA. I drove through there on Friday and then again yesterday on the way home.
If only I had known! Doh!
